NafisaCeltic’s summer transfer business appears to be gathering serious momentum once again, with another attacking addition now edging closer as Martin O’Neill continues preparing his squad for the challenges ahead.
The Scottish champions have already been linked with several forwards throughout the window, but one name is now emerging as the standout candidate after developments overseas hinted that a breakthrough may not be far away.
With uncertainty continuing to surround Daizen Maeda’s future, Celtic have been working behind the scenes to ensure they are not left short in the final third. According to Danish outlet Campo, Celtic are now trying to finalise an agreement for Bodo/Glimt striker Kasper Hogh, with discussions having already taken place between the Premiership champions, the Norwegian club and the player’s representatives.
The report claims the 25-year-old Dane has moved significantly closer to a Parkhead switch after Celtic revived their long-standing interest.
The Hoops explored a deal for Hogh during the January transfer window but ultimately backed away after Bodo/Glimt dramatically increased their valuation following the club’s impressive UEFA Champions League run.
Now, however, negotiations have resumed, and there is growing confidence that an agreement can eventually be reached.
One development has only intensified speculation surrounding Hogh’s future.
Despite entering the weekend as Bodo/Glimt’s leading scorer, the Danish striker was surprisingly left out of the starting line-up for the Norwegian side’s league clash with HamKam.
Instead, Andreas Helmersen was selected to lead the attack.
Officially, manager Kjetil Knutsen insisted the decision was purely about managing the striker’s workload.
“We decided to rest him,” Knutsen explained following the match.
However, reports in Norway suggest there could be more behind the decision, with Hogh understood to be interested in completing a move to Glasgow if the clubs can reach an agreement.
The timing is significant.
Celtic are expected to reshape their attacking department before the transfer window closes, particularly if Maeda’s anticipated departure is completed.
That would leave Martin O’Neill needing another proven goalscorer capable of delivering immediately both domestically and in Europe.
Hogh certainly fits that profile.
The Danish forward has developed into one of the most consistent finishers in Norwegian football, combining intelligent movement, aerial strength and clinical finishing inside the penalty area.
