Bringing in a defensive-minded midfielder has been labelled a key priority for the transfer window, with several targets already placed on the shortlist.
Andersen was among those under consideration, having reportedly featured on Stig Inge Bjornebye’s Scandinavian scouting radar.
However, those hopes have now been effectively ended, as Sporting CP have moved decisively to secure his signature.
According to Tipsbladet, the Portuguese giants have agreed a deal worth around £6.5million following extensive negotiations.
The Danish outlet also reported that Sporting had initially submitted a £6m bid for the Denmark U21 international just weeks earlier, before returning with an improved offer.
The final agreement is understood to include potential add-ons that could take the total package up to £8.65m, alongside a sell-on clause for Häcken.
The 21-year-old is expected to travel to Lisbon on Friday, with a medical pencilled in for Saturday ahead of completing a five-year contract running until 2031.
If everything goes smoothly, he will officially join the Primeira Liga side as they beat off competition from elsewhere in Europe.
Andersen’s representative, Niclas Jensen, recently confirmed that interest had also come from “big” clubs in both Germany and Portugal.
With that in mind, it is no surprise that Rangers ultimately faced an uphill battle to convince the midfielder to choose Ibrox over more established European destinations.
