Talks linking Guardiola’s team to Gibbs-White initially surfaced in early April.
Recently, City have intensified their pursuit of the midfielder, with Fabrizio Romano revealing that Gibbs-White is a top target for the Etihad leadership.
While Forest are reluctant to part ways, reports suggest they may consider letting him go—if a specific condition is fulfilled.

Nottingham Forest acquired Gibbs-White from Wolves in the summer of 2022 in a package potentially rising to £42.5 million, a hefty investment.
As shared by Paul Taylor in a Q&A on The Athletic, the valuation placed on the 25-year-old by club owner Evangelos Marinakis would need to be substantial in order to generate any sort of return.
With Forest now clear of the threat of violating PSR regulations, there’s no immediate pressure to cash in on their prized players.

However, Taylor explains that ‘if [Nottingham Forest] want to recruit again this summer, making a big sale would give them more wiggle room to do that.’
He added: ‘Even if [Nottingham Forest] sold [Gibbs-White] for £70m to £80m, it would not represent a huge profit.’
Taylor wrapped up by saying, ‘profit would have to be the motivation for selling; [Nottingham Forest] would need to recoup enough to sign a replacement and to help keep them the right side of PSR again.’

If the club decides to cash in on Gibbs-White this summer, several attacking names have already been linked as possible replacements.
Both Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo are on Forest’s radar, with Wissa recently commending Espirito Santo’s men for their grit and ability to grind out 1-0 wins.
Selling Gibbs-White would certainly generate the resources to pursue one or even both of Mbeumo and Wissa from Thomas Frank’s squad.
Outside the Premier League, Fenerbahçe playmaker Sebastian Szymanski has also emerged as a contender. The 26-year-old has racked up seven goals and nine assists in 49 appearances across all competitions under Jose Mourinho this season.
If Gibbs-White departs, whoever is brought in will face the tall order of matching the England international’s influence.
