NafisaLeeds United have moved quickly to strengthen Daniel Farke’s squad with a signing that could prove far more important than the headlines initially suggest.
The Whites have already shown plenty of ambition in the transfer window, but there has been a clear focus on adding players capable of making the squad stronger and more competitive across an entire Premier League campaign.
Now, another major piece of business is effectively complete.
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Leeds have completed the signing of Nico Elvedi from Borussia Monchengladbach, bringing an experienced Switzerland international to Elland Road as Farke continues to reshape his defence.
The move represents another smart addition for Leeds, particularly given the player’s experience, leadership qualities and previous relationship with the manager.

Romano has confirmed that Leeds have reached an agreement with Borussia Monchengladbach for Elvedi, with the defender now set to make the move to Yorkshire.
The deal is understood to be worth €10million, with a 15 per cent sell-on clause also included in the agreement.
The final paperwork is now being completed, while Elvedi’s medical is being prepared ahead of his arrival at Elland Road.
Personal terms had already been agreed between Leeds and the player, with Elvedi committing to a contract running until 2029.
That means the remaining work is largely administrative before Leeds can officially welcome their latest defensive recruit.
It is a significant piece of business for Farke, who knows exactly what Elvedi can bring after previously working with him at Borussia Monchengladbach.
The 29-year-old spent the 2022/23 campaign playing under Farke in Germany, giving the Leeds boss an opportunity to assess his qualities at close quarters.
That familiarity could be hugely valuable.
Farke gets the leader he wanted
Elvedi is not arriving at Elland Road simply because he is an experienced defender.
He brings the kind of leadership and consistency that can raise the overall level of a squad, particularly for a Leeds side still trying to establish itself firmly in the Premier League.
Farke previously described Elvedi as an “absolute leader” and went as far as calling him one of the best central defenders in Europe when performing at his best.
“Nico Elvedi is an absolute leader for us,” Farke said during his time at Gladbach.
“When he is at his best, he is one of the best central defenders in Europe. He has proven that over the years.”
Those comments provide a pretty clear indication of how highly Farke rates his new signing.
Elvedi has spent a decade at Gladbach after joining from FC Zurich and has built up enormous Bundesliga experience during that time.
He has also played in the Champions League and Europa League while earning more than 70 caps for Switzerland.
That experience could become extremely useful for Leeds.
Elvedi can raise Leeds’ squad baseline
Perhaps the biggest attraction is the reliability Elvedi should bring to Farke’s defensive options.
Leeds have already invested heavily in their squad this summer, but Premier League seasons are rarely decided by the quality of a starting XI alone.
Squad depth matters.
Injuries, suspensions, loss of form and fixture congestion can quickly expose weaknesses, meaning Farke needs players he can trust when called upon.
Elvedi fits that description.
He can operate in a back four or back three and should therefore give Farke additional tactical flexibility.
His arrival also comes at an important time following the expected departure of Sebastiaan Bornauw, while Leeds have already added Tarik Muharemovic to their defensive ranks.
Rather than simply replacing an outgoing player, Elvedi gives Farke another experienced option capable of competing for a starting position.

There will always be supporters who prefer the excitement of a huge-name signing, but Elvedi represents the kind of recruitment that can quietly make a major difference.
He knows the Bundesliga inside out, has extensive European experience, understands Farke’s methods and arrives with plenty of football still ahead of him.
Most importantly, he does not need to spend months learning what top-level football demands.
Leeds are trying to move beyond simply surviving in the Premier League, and adding players with Elvedi’s experience is exactly how they can begin to build a stronger foundation.
The €10million fee also looks reasonable for a defender with his pedigree, particularly when the deal includes a sell-on clause rather than Leeds simply committing an enormous amount of money upfront.
For Farke, this is another player he already trusts.
For Leeds, it is another experienced leader added to an increasingly ambitious squad.
And with Romano now confirming the agreement is complete, the Whites are one step closer to officially unveiling a signing that could prove to be one of the smartest pieces of business of their summer.
