NafisaCeltic have taken a major step towards completing another summer signing after reportedly reaching an agreement on personal terms with German midfielder Mika Baur.
The 22-year-old has emerged as a surprise target for the Scottish champions, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealing that the player has already agreed the framework of a contract at Parkhead.
Romano shared the update on Tuesday, writing on X: “Understand Celtic have reached an agreement with Mika Baur on personal terms. Club to club talks ongoing with Paderborn.”
With the player’s side now understood to be fully on board, attention has turned to negotiations between Celtic and German club Paderborn as both sides attempt to finalise a transfer.
Baur has attracted growing interest in Germany after impressing with his performances, with Schalke 04 previously linked and several Bundesliga clubs believed to have monitored his progress in recent months. Despite that competition, Celtic now appear to have moved into pole position after convincing the midfielder over a switch to Glasgow.
The versatile German is primarily a central midfielder but is capable of operating in a deeper holding role, further forward as an attacking midfielder, or even on the left flank when required, giving Brendan Rodgers another flexible option for the new campaign.
Paderborn had reportedly hoped to extend Baur’s current contract, which runs until 2027, but Celtic’s interest has accelerated talks over his future. According to Sky Sports Germany, the Bundesliga 2 outfit value the midfielder at around £2.5 million.
With personal terms now reportedly agreed, supporters will be watching closely as club-to-club negotiations continue, with Celtic hoping to turn Romano’s latest update into another completed transfer before the new season gets underway.
