Rangers supporters had plenty to celebrate after Derek McInnes’ side secured an emphatic 4-0 victory over St Johnstone, but the scenes outside Ibrox after the final whistle quickly changed the mood.

Heavy rain battered Glasgow, leaving surrounding streets flooded and forcing the club to issue an urgent safety warning to fans making their way home.

Large sections of Edmiston Drive were left underwater, creating difficult conditions immediately outside the stadium. Footage shared on social media showed supporters attempting to navigate narrow stretches of pavement while significant amounts of floodwater covered the surrounding roads.

The situation became serious enough for Rangers to urge fans to exercise caution and consider alternative routes when leaving the ground. The club also took the unusual step of asking players not to stop for photographs or autographs after the match, with worsening weather conditions prompting concerns about everyone’s safety.

Rangers issue urgent warning to supporters outside Ibrox

The Rangers Supporters Liaison Officer delivered a clear message to fans after the flooding affected the area around the stadium.

“Supporters are advised that large parts of Edmiston Drive are currently flooded. Please take care when leaving the stadium and use alternative routes where possible.”

The warning came as supporters left Ibrox following Rangers’ commanding league victory. Although the match itself had been completed, the conditions outside the ground presented a fresh challenge for those trying to get home safely.

Images and video footage showed water covering substantial sections of the road, with traffic cones partially submerged as the extent of the flooding became apparent.

For supporters who had stayed behind to celebrate the result, the message was a reminder to prioritise safety rather than attempt to pass through flooded areas unnecessarily.

The club’s request for fans to use alternative routes where possible also highlighted the disruption caused by the severe weather around the stadium.

Rangers make unusual decision over player photographs

The flooding and worsening forecast also prompted Rangers to make a further announcement concerning players after the final whistle.

Supporters often wait outside the stadium hoping to meet their favourite players, take photographs or collect autographs. However, the club confirmed that those opportunities would not be available after Saturday’s match.

A second message from the Supporters Liaison Officer explained the reasoning behind the decision.

“Supporters are advised that, in the interests of everyone’s safety and wellbeing, players will not be stopping for photographs or autographs after today’s match.

“This is to allow supporters, players, and staff to leave the stadium promptly and travel home safely ahead of the worsening weather conditions expected this evening.

“We thank supporters for their understanding and cooperation.”

The decision was intended to help everyone leave the stadium promptly rather than remain around the ground as the weather deteriorated.

While some supporters may have been disappointed to miss the opportunity to meet the players after such a convincing result, Rangers made clear that safety was the priority.

A difficult end to an otherwise successful afternoon:

On the pitch, McInnes’ team had given the home crowd plenty to enjoy with their 4-0 victory over St Johnstone. The result provided a positive conclusion to the Premiership fixture, but the conditions outside Ibrox created an unwelcome complication.

The flooding meant the usual post-match routine was disrupted, with supporters urged to take extra care while leaving the stadium and travelling home.

The Rangers Review reported that large parts of Edmiston Drive were affected, while footage shared by journalist Chris Jack showed the conditions surrounding the ground.

The club’s response focused on limiting unnecessary delays and helping supporters, players and staff get away from the stadium before the weather worsened further.

Rangers also thanked fans for their cooperation, acknowledging the importance of following the safety advice during the disruption.

For supporters leaving Ibrox, the message was straightforward: take care, avoid flooded sections where possible and prioritise getting home safely.

Although Rangers’ 4-0 victory will be remembered as a strong performance on the pitch, the flooding outside the stadium became a major talking point after the final whistle, prompting an urgent warning and an unusual change to the club’s post-match arrangements.
