Darlow was one of the biggest points of discussion.
Crook suggested that the goalkeeper’s performance demonstrated exactly why Leeds had been prepared to move forward without him, even though the Yorkshire club had previously offered him a new contract.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Crook said: “I am not sure Man United were in a position to write off this cup tie and put a goalkeeper, who probably still should be on the Leeds bench, no disrespect to Karl Darlow.
“He has gone for two young central defenders, who got found out as well.”
It was a brutal assessment of Darlow’s debut and one that inevitably brings the goalkeeper’s summer decision back into focus.
Leeds had been willing to keep him.
But the club were also unwilling to hand him the guaranteed starting role he wanted.
That opened the door for Darlow to leave — and for Leeds to complete their move for Trafford.
Why Leeds were ready to move on
Darlow had been a dependable option for Leeds, but Farke’s decision not to guarantee him the No.1 position was significant.
The manager knew the club were pursuing Trafford, and once the England international arrived at Elland Road, Darlow’s route to becoming the undisputed starter was always going to become considerably more difficult.
Rather than remain and fight for his place, Darlow opted for a fresh challenge.
Manchester United offered that opportunity.
The move represented a major step for the veteran goalkeeper, but it also came with an obvious challenge: competing for opportunities at one of the biggest clubs in English football.
His first appearance has now given his critics ammunition.
For Leeds, however, the situation looks rather different.

Farke had to make a decision based on what he believed was best for the team, and the club’s subsequent pursuit of Trafford made their intentions increasingly obvious.
Now, only weeks after leaving Elland Road, Darlow has endured a debut that has once again put that decision under the spotlight.
The goalkeeper still has plenty of time to change the narrative at Manchester United, and one difficult cup appearance does not define a career.
But from Leeds’ perspective, the situation is already looking very different.
They have moved forward with Trafford between the posts, while Darlow is now fighting for opportunities at Old Trafford.
And if Crook’s assessment proves representative of how Manchester United view their goalkeeping options, Darlow could have a long wait before his next competitive appearance.
