NafisaRangers have wasted little time responding after their frustrating start to the new Scottish Premiership season, with Derek McInnes’ transfer wishes now being answered.
Following the disappointing 1-1 draw against Dundee United, the Rangers boss openly admitted his squad still needed greater quality in the final third, urging the club to bring in more attacking players before the transfer window closes.
The message was heard loud and clear.
Behind the scenes, Ibrox chiefs have accelerated negotiations for another exciting addition, and the latest developments suggest supporters won’t have to wait much longer for an official announcement.
The player is now on the verge of becoming Rangers’ latest summer signing.
According to German transfer expert Florian Plettenberg, Daisuke Yokota has already agreed his move from Hannover 96, with the Japanese winger now on the brink of completing his switch to Glasgow.
Plettenberg reports that Yokota has missed training with Hannover after reaching an agreement, while Rangers have reportedly scheduled his medical for Tuesday ahead of the transfer being finalised.
The 26-year-old is expected to become Rangers’ ninth signing of the summer and, in doing so, will also become the first Asian player to represent the Light Blues.
McInnes was left frustrated by Rangers’ lack of cutting edge against Dundee United despite Thelo Aasgaard producing a superb equaliser to rescue a point.
While Aasgaard impressed, Rangers struggled to consistently threaten in the attacking areas, making fresh reinforcements an immediate priority.
Yokota’s arrival, however, is unlikely to signal the end of Rangers’ business.
McInnes is still believed to want another winger, while defensive reinforcements at centre-back and left-back also remain high on the club’s agenda.
Rangers have already demonstrated their ambition by submitting an £8 million bid for Frosinone winger Fares Ghedjemis, although the Italian club rejected the offer as they continue to hold out for a significantly higher fee.
Meanwhile, Oguz Aydin of Fenerbahce also remains among the names being monitored as Rangers continue searching for further attacking quality.
Since arriving at Ibrox, McInnes has repeatedly insisted he wants players capable of making an immediate impact, and the club’s hierarchy, led by Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers, appear determined to continue backing their manager.
With Yokota now on the verge of arriving and further signings still expected before the transfer window closes, Rangers are showing no signs of slowing down.
Attention will now quickly turn to Thursday’s crucial Europa League qualifier against Jagiellonia Bialystok, before league fixtures against Hibernian, St Mirren and Aberdeen.
For McInnes, the recruitment drive is gathering momentum.
The next challenge is making sure these new arrivals help Rangers deliver where it matters most—on the pitch.
