Souttar and Danilo omitted from Rangers’ Spain trip
John Souttar and Danilo have both been excluded from the Rangers squad travelling to Spain for the club’s latest pre-season training camp.
Neither player has joined Derek McInnes’ travelling party for the warm-weather sessions, with reports suggesting both remain candidates to leave Ibrox during the current transfer window.
Their absence comes amid growing expectations that the pair will move on before the new season begins, with neither expected to feature prominently in McInnes’ long-term plans.
Souttar only returned to the Rangers Training Centre on Thursday after representing Scotland at the FIFA World Cup in the United States.
However, despite recently returning from international duty, the 29-year-old has not travelled with the squad after being linked with a summer exit.
The central defender only signed a one-year contract extension last season, but interest from clubs in England is believed to be growing as Rangers continue reshaping their defensive options.
The Light Blues have already strengthened at the back with the arrival of Ben Godfrey on loan, while further reinforcements on the left side of defence remain under consideration.
Danilo also expected to move on
Danilo has also returned to Rangers following his loan spell with Dutch side NEC Nijmegen in the Eredivisie last season.
Despite still having two years remaining on his current contract, the Brazilian striker is widely expected to leave Ibrox during the coming weeks.
Interest from clubs in both Greece and the Netherlands has continued to emerge as Rangers assess their attacking department ahead of the new campaign.
With Lawrence Shankland, Youssef Chermiti, Bojan Miovski and Ryan Naderi all available as centre-forward options, Rangers appear comfortable with the depth they currently possess in attack.
That situation has inevitably placed Danilo’s future under increasing scrutiny.
McInnes is expected to continue trimming his squad as further arrivals edge closer, and both Souttar and Danilo now appear among the leading candidates to depart before competitive football resumes.
Although neither exit has been officially confirmed, their omission from the Spain training camp is likely to be viewed by many supporters as another strong indication that Rangers’ summer rebuild is still very much ongoing.
