With Derek McInnes leading a new era following his appointment as manager, supporters have already witnessed several departures and arrivals across different areas of the club.
While attention has largely been focused on first-team recruitment and the reshaping of the coaching staff, further changes continue to emerge away from the spotlight. Long-serving figures who have helped build the club over the years are also moving on, highlighting the scale of the transformation currently taking place.
The latest departure has come directly from the individual himself, with a respected member of the Rangers set-up using social media to confirm his decision to leave the club after more than a decade of service.
Who has departed from Rangers?
Scott Edgar has announced that he will leave Rangers this August after spending 11 years at Ibrox as the club’s Senior Soccer Academies Executive.
Edgar revealed the news himself in a post on X, confirming that his long association with Rangers is coming to an end.
“After 11 incredible years, I have made the difficult decision to move on from Rangers Football Club this August.
“The club has shaped both my career and the person I have become. I am grateful for every opportunity and friendship made along the way. Thank you, Rangers.”
His announcement marks the end of an 11-year spell during which he helped oversee the Rangers Soccer Academies programme, working closely with councils, schools, charities and commercial partners to secure funding and develop sustainable grassroots initiatives.
Although Edgar was not a first-team player, he was regarded as an important figure within Rangers’ academy structure, helping provide opportunities for young players aged between five and 15 to develop through the club’s football programmes.
His departure adds to a summer that has already seen sweeping changes throughout Ibrox.
Danny Röhl left the club for RB Salzburg before Rangers appointed Derek McInnes as their new manager. McInnes has since brought further changes to the coaching staff, including the return of former goalkeeper Allan McGregor.
Edgar’s exit means Rangers must now identify someone capable of continuing the work that has helped strengthen the club’s youth development pathway over the past decade.
Are the Rangers Soccer Academies successful?
The Soccer Academies have produced several success stories and remain an important part of Rangers’ long-term vision.
One notable graduate is Leon King, who first attended a Rangers Soccer Academy at the age of five before progressing through the youth system and eventually reaching the first team.
Reflecting on his experience, King previously said:
“It was amazing, and for a wee boy at that age, it was such a good opportunity and a chance to go and show Rangers what you could do.”
King went on to become part of Steven Gerrard’s Scottish Premiership title-winning squad during the 2020-21 season before later leaving Ibrox.
With Scott Edgar now preparing to begin a new chapter, Rangers will hope the academy structure he helped build continues to produce future talent for years to come as the club enters another new era under Derek McInnes.
