NafisaCeltic are speeding up their plans to reinforce their squad in the summer transfer window, and they’ve now pinpointed a key target as they compete with Rangers for his signature.
It’s been a recurring pattern in recent years that Rangers and Celtic both operate in a similar market when it comes to recruitment. The two Glasgow giants share a comparable status in the game, being the two biggest clubs in Scotland.
Celtic will likely hold an edge in the race to secure new additions in the summer transfer window after lifting the Scottish Premiership title earlier this month.
That won’t stop both clubs from going head-to-head for signings with the market opening in just a few weeks’ time.
Celtic Competing With Rangers for Target:
Motherwell winger Elijah Just has emerged as a major transfer target for Celtic ahead of the summer transfer window, with the Glasgow side stepping up their plans to improve their squad.
Rangers are also understood to be monitoring the 26-year-old, but Celtic are currently viewed as favourites to win the race for his signature.
“Elijah Just is exactly the type of player Celtic are looking at. It’s difficult for clubs in Scotland to find players, it’s not like in the Premier League where you can go and get anybody for anywhere with the money involved.
“Celtic need to use their budget wisely, and signing the best players in Scotland is the most reliable way to do that, because you know how they perform in the league.”
Just was previously labelled the ‘best player’ in the league by New Zealand manager Darren Bazeley.
Celtic Have More Important Matter Right Now:
At present, Celtic do have a more pressing issue following the end of the Scottish Premiership season.
The Glasgow outfit need to appoint a new manager, with O’Neill only contracted until the conclusion of the current campaign.
A new manager may favour different types of players, which could influence their activity in the transfer market.
Bringing in a manager before the window officially opens would be the ideal scenario, and Celtic have had plenty of time to assess potential targets over recent months.
Finishing top of the table will undoubtedly strengthen their position when it comes to attracting both players and a manager in the coming weeks and months.
