NafisaRangers are pushing hard to complete yet another statement signing this summer, with reports suggesting club officials have flown to Norway in a bid to finalise a deal for long-term midfield target Jens Hjerto-Dahl.
Derek McInnes has wasted little time reshaping his squad since taking charge at Ibrox, overseeing an aggressive recruitment drive after last season’s disappointing campaign. With six new arrivals already through the door and Vanja Dragojevic also closing in on a move from Partizan Belgrade, Rangers are now attempting to wrap up another major piece of business.
The Light Blues have already strengthened every area of the squad this summer. Lawrence Shankland arrived to add firepower up front, while Dan Neil and Cammy Devlin have bolstered the midfield. Ben Godfrey, Ross McCrorie and goalkeeper Ivor Pandur have also joined as McInnes continues his extensive rebuild.
However, Rangers believe there is still room for another quality addition in midfield.
According to reports from Norway, the Glasgow giants have stepped up their pursuit of Tromso star Jens Hjerto-Dahl after submitting an improved offer worth around £6.8 million.
The 20-year-old has been on Rangers’ radar for several months, with the club first identifying him as a priority target before the summer transfer window opened. Interest from Cardiff City and Turkish side Besiktas threatened to derail the move, but Rangers have now responded by accelerating negotiations.
Norwegian outlet Nordlys reports that Rangers officials travelled to Norway by private jet on Thursday in an attempt to conclude discussions directly with Tromso as they look to beat rival clubs to the highly-rated midfielder’s signature.
If an agreement is reached, Hjerto-Dahl would become another major addition to McInnes’ rapidly evolving squad and could arrive shortly after Vanja Dragojevic, whose £4 million move from Partizan Belgrade is also understood to be nearing completion.
The Serbian midfielder is expected to undergo a medical before officially becoming Rangers’ seventh signing of the transfer window, meaning Hjerto-Dahl could quickly follow as number eight if talks progress positively.
McInnes is determined to ensure Rangers are significantly stronger before the Scottish Premiership season begins, with the club refusing to slow down their transfer activity.
The Ibrox side are also exploring further attacking reinforcements.
Leicester City winger Stephy Mavididi has emerged as another player under serious consideration after positive discussions over a possible move. The 28-year-old is believed to be open to leaving the Foxes following their relegation and is keen to continue playing at a higher level.
Leicester are reportedly demanding around £7 million for the former Arsenal academy graduate, although Rangers are expected to negotiate in an attempt to reduce that valuation before deciding whether to make a formal offer.
Mavididi contributed four Premier League goals during Leicester’s difficult campaign and remains highly regarded for his pace, direct running and ability to play across the forward line.
With Dragojevic edging closer, Hjerto-Dahl negotiations gathering pace and further attacking additions still being explored, Rangers’ summer rebuild shows no signs of slowing down as McInnes looks to assemble a squad capable of mounting a serious title challenge next season.
