The Ibrox club have already strengthened multiple positions during an ambitious transfer window, but there is little sign of the business slowing down as Rangers continue targeting more quality before the new season begins.
Supporters have been eagerly awaiting news on several transfer fronts, with links to Jens Hjerto-Dahl, Vaclav Cerny and Ryan Fosso all gathering momentum in recent weeks. However, it is another highly-rated midfielder who now appears set to become Rangers’ next arrival after significant progress was made behind the scenes.
The latest developments have even caught the attention of former Premier League midfielder Jamie O’Hara, who delivered an instant reaction after hearing the update live on television.
Sky Sports confirms major Vanja Dragojevic breakthrough
According to Sky Sports News, Rangers have had a bid worth more than £4 million accepted by Partizan Belgrade for highly-rated midfielder Vanja Dragojevic.
The report states that only the final details remain before the deal is completed, with the Serbian captain now edging closer to becoming Derek McInnes’ latest summer signing.
Partizan had reportedly valued the 20-year-old at around €15 million, but financial issues at the Serbian club have forced them to lower their demands, allowing Rangers to capitalise on the opportunity.
Sky Sports also described Dragojevic as “one of the best defensive midfielders” currently playing in the Serbian top flight.
While discussing the transfer live on air, former Tottenham Hotspur and Wolves midfielder Jamie O’Hara was clearly impressed by the update.
After hearing Rangers had reached an agreement for Dragojevic, O’Hara simply responded:
“Wow.”
Although he did not expand further, his immediate reaction reflected the growing reputation of the Serbian youngster, who is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in his country’s domestic league.
Dragojevic captained Partizan Belgrade despite being only 20 years old and enjoyed an outstanding campaign last season, making 41 appearances while contributing four goals and four assists before earning his senior Serbia debut.
Rangers not stopping there
Even if Dragojevic’s move is officially completed in the coming days, Rangers’ transfer business is far from over.
Sky Sports reports that negotiations are continuing with Norwegian side Tromso over midfielder Jens Hjerto-Dahl, another player high on Derek McInnes’ shortlist.
However, Rangers face growing competition after Cardiff City also had a bid rejected for the Norwegian youngster, a development that could increase his eventual transfer fee.
Elsewhere, reports continue linking Rangers with a move to bring Vaclav Cerny back to Ibrox, although the current asking price remains a significant obstacle.
Ryan Fosso is another midfielder believed to be under consideration as McInnes continues searching for further reinforcements.
With six new signings already through the door and Dragojevic now appearing increasingly close to joining them, Rangers are assembling one of their strongest-looking squads in recent years.
