NafisaKris Boyd wasted no time twisting the knife into Celtic after their extraordinary Champions League collapse against LASK in Austria.
The former Rangers striker watched on as Celtic surrendered a commanding four-goal aggregate advantage before suffering a humiliating 5-1 defeat in Linz.
The Hoops had travelled to Austria with a 3-0 lead from the first leg and looked to have put the tie beyond LASK when captain Callum McGregor opened the scoring early in the second leg.
That made it 4-0 on aggregate.
What happened next was almost impossible to believe.
LASK scored five unanswered goals, including a late equaliser that forced extra time before the Austrian side completed the comeback with a decisive fifth goal.
Celtic’s 5-1 defeat meant they crashed out 5-4 on aggregate, bringing their Champions League campaign to a spectacular and painful end.
While Martin O’Neill and his players were left to deal with the fallout, Boyd was clearly enjoying himself.
The Rangers legend took to Instagram with a series of posts that appeared designed specifically to wind up Celtic supporters after one of the most painful nights imaginable for the Hoops.
Boyd first posted a close-up selfie from bed, pulling an exaggerated shocked expression.
But that was only the beginning.
He then followed it up with a picture of a golden crumble pie decorated with the words “CELTIC CRUMBLE”, complete with a green shamrock.
The caption accompanying the post was even more provocative:
“Supper time 😍😍”
The message was hardly subtle.
Boyd had clearly decided that Celtic’s extraordinary collapse was too good an opportunity to miss, and the timing of the post made the trolling even more brutal.
It arrived just hours after Celtic had thrown away what should have been an almost unassailable advantage.
The posts quickly circulated across social media, with Rangers supporters enjoying the joke while Celtic fans were left furious at the former Ibrox striker’s decision to celebrate their misery.
And given the history between the two Glasgow clubs, Boyd’s reaction was always likely to attract plenty of attention.
For Celtic, however, the social-media trolling is only a small part of a much bigger problem.
The defeat has left the club facing a serious European and financial setback.
Celtic will now drop into the Europa League rather than competing in the Champions League league phase, missing out on the significant revenue that comes with progressing into Europe’s elite competition.
More importantly, the manner of the defeat has created serious questions for O’Neill and his squad.
The Celtic manager has already accepted responsibility for the collapse, admitting that his side conceded goals that were not good enough.
Captain Callum McGregor was equally damning, admitting that Celtic had been too passive and had played with fear despite their enormous aggregate advantage.
The Celtic skipper also refused to blame recruitment or squad depth, insisting the players had to accept responsibility for what happened.
That means the fallout from Austria is likely to continue long after Boyd’s Instagram posts disappear from social media.
Celtic now have to regroup quickly and ensure the collapse does not derail the rest of their season.
But for Boyd and Rangers supporters, Tuesday night’s result provided an opportunity for some classic Old Firm needle.
The former Rangers striker clearly wasn’t going to let it pass.
After Celtic had somehow transformed a 4-0 aggregate lead into a 5-4 defeat, Boyd delivered his verdict in the most Rangers-Celtic way possible.
Supper time indeed.
