Wayne Rooney singles out the ONE Leeds United player he was Blown Away by after 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest much to the disgust of Oliver Glasner

Anton Stach’s stunning late free-kick may have grabbed the headlines as Leeds United secured a dream Premier League opening-day victory against Nottingham Forest, but one of Daniel Farke’s summer recruits has also emerged with plenty of praise following an impressive debut.

The Whites produced a disciplined display at the City Ground, frustrating their hosts for long periods before Stach stepped up with a moment of individual brilliance to secure a valuable 1-0 win.

It was the perfect start to life back in the Premier League for Leeds, who carried the confidence built during an outstanding pre-season into their first competitive fixture of the campaign.

With all four summer signings making their competitive debuts, there was plenty for supporters to analyse. However, one new arrival in particular caught the attention of Manchester United and England legend Wayne Rooney.

Wayne Rooney impressed by Leeds United defender Tarik Muharemovic:

Tarik Muharemovic arrived at Elland Road during the summer transfer window as Leeds looked to strengthen their defensive options following Pascal Struijk’s departure to Brighton.

The Bosnian defender quickly impressed during pre-season, showing confidence and composure despite making the step up to English football.

Those qualities continued against Nottingham Forest, where Muharemovic looked comfortable on his Premier League debut alongside Leeds’ defensive unit.

Rooney highlighted the youngster’s calmness in possession, praising his ability to play out from the back while also recognising his physical presence and aerial threat.

Speaking on Match of the Day, the former Manchester United striker said:

“”Muharemovic looks very composed on the ball.

“He is a big lad, good in both boxes, but you can see his composure.

“In the penalty box, he is a good threat from crosses into the box.

“He is quick across the ground for such a big lad.”

The comments underline the growing belief that Leeds may have uncovered a major defensive talent capable of becoming an important figure at Elland Road.

Leeds United recruitment already making a difference:

The 49ers have received plenty of praise for their transfer strategy this summer, with the club targeting players who can immediately improve Daniel Farke’s squad while also offering long-term value.

James Trafford provided confidence between the posts on his Premier League debut, keeping a clean sheet against Forest despite facing pressure at times.

Muharemovic added defensive composure, while Nico Elvedi brings further experience and Bundesliga pedigree to the backline.

Harry Wilson also showed flashes of why Leeds moved quickly to secure his signature on a free transfer, offering creativity and quality in attacking areas.

The early signs suggest Leeds have not only improved their starting XI but have also increased competition throughout the squad ahead of a demanding Premier League campaign.

While Stach’s spectacular free-kick will remain the defining moment from the victory at the City Ground, Muharemovic’s mature performance has given Leeds fans another reason for optimism.

For a defender making his first appearance in England’s top flight, earning praise from someone like Rooney is a significant statement.

And if his debut is anything to go by, Leeds may have found another important piece of their long-term Premier League project.
