Rangers to complete transfer done deal for £6million forward as Derek McInnes signs off on player’s signing, deal to be completed in coming hours

Rangers are on the verge of completing another piece of summer business after giving the green light for striker Danilo Pereira to leave Ibrox in a deal that is expected to be wrapped up within the coming hours.

The Brazilian forward is edging closer to an exit after Botafogo accelerated negotiations, with the two clubs now understood to have agreed the framework of a season-long loan that includes an option to make the transfer permanent.

Fresh reports from Brazil suggest only the final paperwork remains before the agreement is officially completed, bringing an end to Danilo’s difficult spell in Glasgow.

Journalist Pablo Oliveira reports that Botafogo have reached an agreement in principle with Rangers, with both clubs now finalising the remaining details before the striker is unveiled by the Brazilian side.

The move comes after Rangers boss Derek McInnes reportedly approved the transfer, making it clear that the 27-year-old does not feature in his plans for the new season as he continues reshaping his squad.

Danilo arrived at Ibrox from Feyenoord in 2023 in a deal worth around £6 million, but injuries and inconsistent form prevented him from becoming the leading striker Rangers had hoped for.

Despite arriving with an impressive reputation from Dutch football, the Brazilian struggled to cement a regular starting place and eventually spent the second half of last season on loan at NEC Nijmegen after falling down the pecking order.

Across his spells with Rangers and NEC during the 2025/26 campaign, Danilo made 40 appearances and found the net five times.

Rangers have now accepted that any permanent move is unlikely to recover the £6 million they originally invested, with Botafogo’s purchase option expected to be set well below that figure should they decide to trigger it after the loan spell.

For McInnes, however, the priority is trimming the squad and creating room for players who fit his long-term vision at Ibrox.

Botafogo have been searching for extra attacking depth despite already having Arthur Cabral leading the line, and Danilo is now expected to become their latest addition once the final documents are signed.

Unless there is a dramatic late twist, the former Feyenoord striker will soon complete his return to Brazilian football, with Rangers expected to officially confirm his departure once the final stages of the agreement are concluded.
