NafisaRangers are closing in on another major attacking addition as Derek McInnes looks to inject more quality into his squad following a difficult start to the season.
The Ibrox hierarchy have been working hard behind the scenes to strengthen the wide areas, with the Gers having identified a player they believe can make an immediate difference on the left flank.
There had been genuine competition for his signature, with clubs from both Europe and MLS showing interest. At one stage, a move to Spain appeared to be a serious possibility, while Colorado Rapids also remained in the picture.
But Rangers have stayed committed to the deal and are now on the verge of getting their man.
According to Dutch journalist Joost Blaauwhof, the PSV Eindhoven winger is flying to Glasgow at around 15:00 CET today, with the next major step already scheduled.
Upon his arrival in Scotland, he is expected to immediately undergo his medical with Rangers.
The player in question is Couhaib Driouech, with Rangers having agreed a fee of around €8million with PSV for the 24-year-old Moroccan.
Driouech has also given his approval to the move, meaning the transfer has now entered its final stages.
If the medical is completed without any concerns, Driouech is expected to put pen to paper on a four-year contract with the Glasgow club.
That would bring an end to a pursuit that has had several twists.
Rangers have previously shown an interest in Driouech, having chased his signature back in 2024 before PSV eventually won the race.
This time, however, the Gers have managed to convince both the Dutch club and the player.
Rangers finally get their man
The move represents a significant piece of business for McInnes, particularly given the competition Rangers have faced.
Celta Vigo had emerged as a serious contender after reports suggested Driouech viewed La Liga as an attractive destination for his career.
Colorado Rapids were also credited with interest, meaning Rangers could not afford to allow negotiations to drift indefinitely.
Instead, the Ibrox club pushed forward and reached an agreement with PSV.
The Dutch side had been prepared to sell provided their valuation was met, and Rangers have now agreed to the €8m figure required to take the winger to Scotland.
While there may still be some final formalities to complete, the fact that Driouech is travelling to Glasgow for his medical represents a huge step towards making the transfer official.
Rangers will naturally want to get everything completed as quickly as possible, particularly with the possibility of other interested clubs attempting a late intervention.
For now, though, the signs are extremely positive.
A timely arrival for Derek McInnes
Driouech’s arrival would come at an important moment for Rangers.
McInnes’ team have already come under pressure following their disappointing home defeat to Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership at the weekend.
The Gers have been crying out for more creativity and natural width, and Driouech’s arrival should give the manager another attacking option to work with.
The Moroccan is unlikely to be involved immediately, with Rangers expected to have him watching from the stands when they return to Europa League action on Thursday night.
But once he is integrated into the squad, McInnes will hope his new winger can provide the attacking spark that has been missing during the opening weeks of the campaign.
Rangers could still return to the market for another winger, but securing Driouech would remove some of the immediate pressure on the recruitment department.
The club are also continuing to monitor other positions, with Club Brugge right-back Hugo Siquet reportedly on their radar.
At the same time, Mohamed Diomande’s Rangers career appears to be reaching its conclusion, with the midfielder having now arrived in Turkey to complete his move to Corum FK.
For Rangers, however, the focus is firmly on Glasgow today.
Driouech is on his way, the medical is scheduled and an €8m transfer that once looked in danger of slipping away is now remarkably close to becoming reality.
