NafisaCeltic’s summer transfer window is expected to bring significant changes to the squad as preparations continue for another demanding campaign both domestically and in Europe.
After securing silverware once again, attention has quickly shifted toward reshaping the dressing room, with several players facing uncertain futures and a number of fresh arrivals expected before the window closes.
The Hoops hierarchy have already been weighing up difficult decisions regarding players who spent portions of last season away from Parkhead.
Loan spells often provide footballers with the opportunity to revive careers, increase their value, or prove they deserve another chance in Glasgow. In some cases, however, strong performances elsewhere can make a permanent departure almost inevitable.
That has certainly been the case for one player who rediscovered his best form away from Scotland.
While supporters have spent recent weeks discussing potential arrivals and managerial developments, one outgoing transfer has now been finalised after months of speculation regarding where the player would be competing next season.
And according to the club completing the deal, Celtic had very little influence over the final outcome.
Lech Poznan sporting director Tomasz Rzasa has revealed why their decision to sign Luis Palma permanently was ultimately beyond Celtic’s control.
The Honduras international winger, 26, finalised a long-term transfer to the Polish champions on Wednesday.
Palma spent the 2024/25 season on loan with Poznan, where he enjoyed an impressive campaign, finding the net 12 times while contributing eight assists.
The Polish side held a purchase option within the loan agreement and, according to Rzasa, that clause ensured the final decision rested entirely with them.
“The loan agreement with Celtic FC included an option to buy, so the decision was entirely in our hands from the outset,” Rzasa told club media.
“We are pleased to confirm that on Wednesday, June 3rd, we exercised the clause and Luis Palma will be a part of our squad until June 30th, 2029.
“Naturally, we cannot disclose the exact figures involved, but I can confirm that this is the highest transfer fee in the club’s history.”
Poznan will enter Champions League qualification for the 2026/27 campaign at the second qualifying round stage.
Palma arrives with valuable European experience, having featured prominently for Celtic in continental competition, including memorable goals against Atletico Madrid and Feyenoord during the 2023 campaign.
Rzasa admitted the club had little hesitation in making the move permanent after reviewing the winger’s performances throughout the season.
“It was impossible to overlook Luis’ performances,” Rzasa added.
“He settled into the team very quickly and consistently delivered quality on the pitch, a fact that was reflected in his statistics.
“We remained calm throughout the speculation surrounding his future because we knew we held all the cards. After reviewing the season, we decided to make the move permanent.
“We hope Luis’ excellent form continues and that he helps us from the very start of the new campaign, especially in the upcoming UEFA Champions League qualifiers.
“We are working hard to ensure we have the strongest possible squad in place ahead of the pre-season.”
For Celtic, the deal officially closes the chapter on Palma’s time at Parkhead. While flashes of quality were evident during his spell in Glasgow, consistency proved difficult to maintain amid fierce competition for places.
His resurgence in Poland ultimately convinced Lech Poznan to break their transfer record, ensuring that Palma’s future now firmly lies away from Celtic as both club and player move on to the next stage of their respective journeys.
