Rangers and Dundee served up an entertaining Premiership showdown at the weekend, with both sides having to settle for a point after a dramatic 2-2 draw that left plenty to discuss.

For Dundee, the result offered another reason for optimism under Steven Pressley, particularly after Callum Jones stepped up to score the equaliser and help his side take something from the contest.

Rangers, meanwhile, were unable to turn the meeting into a victory, with Dundee proving difficult to put away as the match unfolded. The result ensured the two teams shared the spoils, setting up plenty of interest in their next encounter.

Jones’ contribution was especially encouraging for Pressley, who believes the midfielder is gradually finding his feet and becoming more confident with every appearance in a Dundee shirt.

“I think game-by-game he’s improved. I still think there’s a lot more to come from him,” the Dundee boss said after the match.

Pressley also highlighted Jones’ determination to learn and adapt, suggesting that his recent performances reflect the progress being made behind the scenes. The manager believes the midfielder’s display against Rangers should give him a significant confidence boost.

But the weekend’s meeting is not the last time these sides will face each other this week.

Dundee and Rangers are scheduled to meet again tonight, Tuesday, in a fixture that will give several players an opportunity to gain valuable minutes away from the pressure of a competitive league match.

RANGERS AND DUNDEE SET FOR ANOTHER MEETING

The clubs are preparing for a closed-doors bounce game at Dundee’s training ground, following their 2-2 Premiership encounter.

Rather than being a competitive replay of the weekend’s draw, the fixture is intended to help Dundee provide additional playing time to members of the squad who need match sharpness, including players returning from injury or a spell on the sidelines.

Dundee head coach Pressley explained that the game would be particularly useful for Charlie Reilly, Ryan Finnigan, Joe Wright and Brad Halliday.

“We have a bounce game on Tuesday to get some game time for the likes of Charlie Reilly, Ryan Finnigan, Joe Wright, Brad Halliday, all the ones who need additional game time,” he said.

The encounter gives Dundee an opportunity to assess their players’ readiness while preparing for their next competitive commitments.

The exact kick-off time for tonight’s Dundee vs Rangers bounce game has not yet been confirmed publicly. The behind-closed-doors encounter is expected to give both sides an opportunity to get valuable minutes into their players, with Dundee particularly keen to build match sharpness among those returning from injury or lacking regular game time.

PRESSLEY WARNS AGAINST TAKING RISKS WITH RETURNING PLAYERS

The Dundee manager has made it clear that the priority is to get players back to full fitness without exposing them to unnecessary risks.

Reilly had only recently returned to training, while Finnigan had managed his first completed training session on Friday.

“So that’ll be very beneficial. Charlie had only trained a couple of days since coming back. With Ryan Finnigan Friday was the first session that he got through. In my mind, they were there for an emergency situation but ideally I don’t want to take risks with them,” Pressley explained.

The bounce game will allow the coaching staff to monitor their progress and determine how much further work they need before returning to competitive action.

That approach is particularly important given Dundee’s current injury concerns, with two forwards facing uncertain timelines.

DUUNDEE AWAIT MAJOR UPDATE ON BOBBY WALES

Bobby Wales remains a significant concern after suffering an ankle injury shortly before scoring for Scotland Under-21s in Bulgaria.

The striker has returned to Swansea City for assessment by their medical team and has now been referred to a second specialist in the search for a definitive diagnosis.

Pressley confirmed that Dundee are still waiting for clarity on the situation.

“I don’t think we’ll hear anything on Bobby Wales until later this week. He’s still down at Swansea,” he said.

Fellow striker Joe Westley is also struggling with an ankle injury sustained during training and is not expected to feature in Dundee’s weekend trip to St Mirren.

“No update on Joe Westley. He’ll continue to push. I’d imagine this weekend will be too soon. But you never know with Joe Westley,” Pressley added.

With both forwards dealing with injury problems, Dundee will be eager to receive positive news as they look to maintain their form.

CALLUM JONES EMERGING AS AN IMPORTANT FIGURE

Amid the injury concerns, Jones’ recent performances have provided encouragement for Pressley.

The midfielder has been tasked with helping fill the gap left by Finnigan’s absence, and the manager believes he has responded with maturity and a willingness to improve.

“He’s really taken things on board. He’s really determined to improve,” Pressley said.

He added that Jones had embraced the demands placed upon him and was beginning to show the benefits of gaining more time and rhythm in the team.

The midfielder’s equaliser against Rangers was a notable contribution, and Pressley believes it can provide a platform for further progress.

As Dundee prepare to face Rangers again tonight, the focus will be on player development, fitness and preparation rather than another competitive battle for Premiership points. The weekend’s 2-2 draw may have set the scene, but this second meeting has a different purpose — and Dundee will hope it helps them move forward on several fronts.
