NafisaBojan Miovski’s future at Rangers is hanging in the balance, with the striker openly admitting he may have no choice but to leave Ibrox if his situation does not improve next season.
And with Scotland international Lawrence Shankland now added to the Rangers attack, competition for places has only intensified—potentially pushing the North Macedonian even further down the pecking order.
Miovski was brought in as a key summer signing by former head coach Russell Martin last year, arriving with big expectations and the hope of leading the line at Ibrox. However, his first season in Glasgow has not gone to plan.
The 26-year-old has struggled to secure consistent minutes, falling behind Youssef Chermiti and Ryan Naderi in the striker hierarchy. Despite showing glimpses of his ability, he has largely been used in a rotational or substitute role throughout the campaign.
Now, with Shankland’s arrival further strengthening Rangers’ attacking options, Miovski’s place at the club looks increasingly uncertain.
Speaking about his situation, the striker admitted he is frustrated by his lack of continuity in the side, even though he still managed a respectable return in front of goal.
“I’m pleased with my goalscoring output considering my playing time,” he told FlashScore.
“I believe that I lacked continuity and a run of matches in the starting line-up to find better rhythm and score more goals. I spent more time on the bench than on the pitch during the second half of the season, but I think that 13 goals overall is still a decent return.
“Of course, every player would like to play more and be in the starting line-up rather than on the bench, and that was the main idea upon me joining the club.”
The striker also reflected on the mental challenges he has faced throughout his career, insisting that criticism has only made him stronger.
“I’ve been underestimated throughout my career, with people saying during my early days that I’m not good enough or that I don’t contribute enough, and for a young player, that’s harsh to hear.”
“I know that there were more talented players than me that didn’t make it, as not everyone has the mental strength to go through that. I’m ambitious and hungry for success, a person who likes to get out of the comfort zone.”
Despite his determination to fight for his place, Miovski refused to rule out an exit this summer.
“You can’t rule out anything [regarding my future], but I’ve got a three-year contract with Rangers and would definitely like to feature more prominently next season rather than sit on the bench.”
With Shankland now firmly in the picture, Miovski’s chances of becoming a regular starter appear slimmer than ever—leaving Rangers with a potentially difficult decision to make in the transfer window.
Meanwhile, Rangers are also exploring further additions, with reports suggesting they are monitoring Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson.
The 26-year-old shot-stopper is believed to be available for around £8million after slipping down the pecking order at the Stadium of Light behind Robin Roefs and Melker Ellborg.
Rangers have reportedly been joined by Wolverhampton Wanderers, Millwall and Wrexham in the race for his signature, although one report suggests Sunderland’s asking price could prove too steep unless negotiations shift in their favour.
