Rangers have completed their first major piece of transfer business of the summer after reaching an agreement to sign Lawrence Shankland from Hearts.

The Scotland international is now on the verge of officially becoming a Rangers player after negotiations accelerated quickly following the conclusion of the Premiership season.

Shankland enjoyed another outstanding campaign with Hearts, scoring 20 goals in 34 appearances across all competitions and playing a huge role in the Edinburgh side’s unexpected title challenge against Celtic.

The 30-year-old came agonisingly close to lifting the Scottish Premiership trophy, with only Hearts’ dramatic final-day defeat at Celtic Park denying the club their first league title in more than six decades.

Now though, the experienced striker looks set to begin a completely new chapter at Ibrox.

Rangers have been heavily linked with Shankland for several years, with the striker long viewed as one of the best attacking players in Scottish football.

Having grown up as a Rangers supporter, the move now appears to finally be happening after the club pushed hard to complete the deal early in the summer window.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano also confirmed the breakthrough on social media, posting his famous catchphrase while revealing that all agreements had now been completed between the parties.

“Paperwork now signed and Shankland set to be announced as new Rangers player.”

Reports suggest Shankland is expected to sign a two-year contract at Ibrox, with the agreement also including the option of a third season should all parties wish to extend the partnership further.

The move is expected to become one of the headline transfers of the Scottish summer, especially considering Shankland’s reputation in the Premiership and his long-standing connection to Rangers.

The signing also represents a major statement from Rangers chairman Andrew Cavenagh, who has already promised significant financial backing for new manager Danny Rohl ahead of next season.
