NafisaSky Sports pundits were completely united in their opinion regarding the penalty decision between Celtic F.C. and Heart of Midlothian F.C..
Martin O’Neill’s side were awarded a penalty shortly before half-time at Parkhead after a handball by Alexandros Kyziridis.
Lawrence Shankland had given Hearts the lead with a headed effort at the far post from a corner after 43 minutes.
However, Celtic drew level during stoppage time when Arne Engels calmly converted from the penalty spot.
Referee Don Robertson pointed to the spot after Kieran Tierney’s cross struck the arm of Kyziridis, who had gone to ground attempting to stop the ball entering the area.
Following a VAR review, the original decision stood.
James McFadden, Scott Brown and John Robertson all agreed that awarding the penalty was the correct call.
McFadden said: “No [there is no doubt, but there can be sympathy.
“When Kyziridis goes to ground, there is nowhere else he can put his hand but by the laws of the game it is a penalty kick. I don’t think there can be any complaints.
“It is a penalty kick, there is no doubt.”
Brown added: “I do sympathise, but it is clear and obvious, it has hit his hand, nice and easy.
“Even Robbo is going to agree with us here!”
Hearts legend Robertson joked: “Penalty Celtic, shock.
“It doesn’t matter what team you are; you want a penalty for that, his hand is up.
“It is hit at him from about a yard away, but if you hand is in that position 99 times out of 100 you are going to get a penalty.”
