Attention around Ibrox has naturally turned towards defensive reinforcements, particularly with the club preparing for life after long-serving figures in the backline.
Planning has been ongoing behind the scenes as Rangers aim to ensure there is no drop-off in quality heading into the new season, especially with competition expected to intensify both domestically and in Europe.
Recruitment staff have already begun identifying profiles that fit Röhl’s system, with emphasis placed on athleticism, attacking output from defensive areas, and long-term resale potential.
That strategic approach has brought a number of emerging names onto the radar as the club look to balance experience with fresh energy.
And now, a concrete option has begun to take shape.
Rangers manager Danny Röhl has seen James Tavernier leave Ibrox at the end of this season.
The Scottish club now face the task of bringing in a replacement for the veteran right-back this summer, with the position viewed as a priority area in the window.
Rangers have set their sights on KVC Westerlo’s Bryan Reynolds as an option to replace Tavernier.
On Tuesday, Sport Witness reported claims from Belgium of the Ibrox club’s interest in the right-back and making contact for a potential deal.
Both the Jupiler Pro League side and the American are open to his exit this summer. This should please Röhl’s side, who can secure his services if there’s a swift agreement reached.
Rangers make further advances
Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share a significant update on Danny Röhl’s side.
He reports that Rangers have tabled an offer worth around €2.5m, suggesting that bonuses are included within the package. However, KVC Westerlo have turned it down and remain firm that Bryan Reynolds will not depart for that valuation.
The fullback himself has already signalled approval for a move to Ibrox, leaving the Scottish side needing to strike an agreement with the Belgian club if the deal is to progress. A breakthrough will likely depend on Rangers returning with an improved proposal.
The journalist does not disclose Westerlo’s asking price, although he does indicate that other clubs could yet enter the equation. Should that happen, it could drive up competition and ultimately increase the fee received by the Belgian outfit.
Good relationship could benefit Rangers:
During the winter window, Rangers brought in left-back Tuur Rommens from KVC Westerlo, strengthening the link between the two clubs.
In addition, former Rangers assistant manager Issame Charaï has been in charge of the Belgian side since June 2025, further maintaining a familiar connection between the clubs.
Those existing ties, along with recent transfer dealings, could play a useful role in helping Rangers negotiate more smoothly for Reynolds.
Ultimately, that relationship could work in Danny Röhl’s favour as long as Rangers come close to Westerlo’s expectations.
The American defender is under contract until 2027 and is currently valued at €3.5m by Transfermarkt. He featured heavily this season, playing 3,584 minutes across 40 appearances, contributing two goals and four assists from right-back.
