NafisaThomas Frank has been told to steer clear of Celtic, with former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness delivering a blunt assessment that will not go down well at Parkhead.
Speaking to Football Insider, Wyness suggested the Danish coach would be making a mistake by dropping into the Scottish game, arguing the level would not match his experience after spells in the Premier League.
Frank has been out of work since his dismissal by Tottenham in February, but his reputation remains strong following his time at Brentford. Despite links with Celtic as they prepare for life after interim boss Martin O’Neill, Wyness made it clear he believes the job would represent a step down.
Celtic are putting together a shortlist of candidates ahead of O’Neill’s expected departure at the end of the season, with the club under pressure to get their next appointment right after a difficult campaign.
But Wyness’ view was clear. He believes Frank has outgrown the level Celtic can offer and should be aiming higher.

The former Aberdeen chief, who also held senior roles at Everton and Aston Villa, did not hold back when assessing the situation. He even suggested that Roberto Martinez would be a more suitable option for the Hoops.
Speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness said: “Is Frank a quality manager? Yes, he is. Is he probably a little bit too experienced for Celtic? I think he might be.
“He might stick out for another club outside of the SPFL because the league itself would be one of the reasons he would be thinking about not taking it. He is not necessarily a younger manager that wants to get in the shop window.
“Everybody knows what Thomas Frank is, and it would be wrong for him to go. He is a Premier League manager, and he could do well still in England. So I’d be surprised if he goes there.
“I thought Roberto Martinez was probably a slightly better fit, and Thomas Frank should be thinking twice about taking the job.”
Those comments effectively paint Celtic as a club that may struggle to attract a manager operating at Frank’s level, a stance that is likely to spark debate given the Hoops’ stature and history.
Celtic still planning summer rebuild
Away from the managerial discussion, Celtic are also preparing for a major rebuild in the summer window, with attacking reinforcements expected to be a key focus.
Martin O’Neill once again turned to Kelechi Iheanacho in their recent win over Hibernian, with the forward coming off the bench to score the decisive goal in a 2-1 victory.
The club are also believed to be tracking Motherwell forward Tawanda Maswanhise, who has impressed with 17 league goals this season.
As Celtic weigh up their next managerial move, comments like Wyness’ only add further scrutiny to the direction the club will take, both in the dugout and on the pitch.
