Former EFL winger Adrian Clarke believes there is evidently something happening behind the scenes at Leicester City concerning former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks.
After spending more than a decade at Tottenham in north London, Winks opted for a switch to Leicester City as he aimed to secure consistent playing time and continue his development.
Following his transfer, Winks stressed that he was searching for a fresh challenge and wanted to push himself further.
He swiftly became a key figure, particularly under Enzo Maresca, who placed trust in him.
However, after a disagreement with Ruud van Nistelrooy toward the end of the campaign, Winks lost his spot in the Foxes’ lineup.
When Marti Cifuentes arrived, the situation didn’t immediately improve, and Clarke argued for the midfielder’s inclusion instead of another Tottenham academy product, Oliver Skipp.
Winks eventually regained his place, but it has been reported that problems arose during training sessions, leading to him being omitted from the squad for the 3-1 victory over Derby County.
“Harry Winks, there is an issue with Harry Winks, I don’t know what it is, but he had a poor game last week and got hooked at half time”, Clarke said on What The EFL (18.25).
“There is talk of stuff at the training ground and whatnot, he was left out of the squad altogether.
“There is clearly something going on behind the scenes and it wouldn’t surprise me if he moved on in January if they could find a buyer.”
Winks has already made 17 appearances this season, providing two assists for his teammates.
He was viewed as a promising talent at Tottenham and will be eager to get his career heading in the right direction again.
With less than a month remaining before the transfer window opens, clubs may be considering Winks as a potential signing to strengthen their midfield options.
