Manchester United are among a number of Premier League sides interested in Leicester City’s “generational talent” Jeremy Monga.
Last season, the 16-year-old became the second-youngest player in Premier League history after making his senior debut against Newcastle United in April, at 15 years and 271 days old.
He went on to feature seven times in the top flight under United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy before the Foxes’ relegation to the Championship. Monga, who mainly operates as a left winger, has been lauded for his blistering pace and composure in attacking areas.
In June, the England U19 international signed a one-year scholarship deal amid heavy speculation about his future at King Power Stadium. However, he is yet to officially agree to his first professional contract.
Manchester United tracking Monga
According to TBR Football, several Premier League outfits, including United, are keeping tabs on Monga.
The outlet’s chief correspondent, Graeme Bailey, said: “Monga is a generational talent. At just 16, he already has more first-team appearances than players like Rio Ngumoh and Max Dowman, who have made huge impacts in the Premier League this season.
“Interest remains high, and there is a belief that by January he could be ready to make a move.”
The teenage star has already cemented his place as a first-team regular at Leicester, having made 12 appearances across all competitions this season. He has been directly involved in two goals so far.
It’s understood Leicester are hopeful that giving him a key role in the senior squad will persuade Monga to sign a professional contract next summer when he turns 17.
However, at present, the Championship club are unable to stop Monga from leaving, with several of England’s biggest sides circling. Reports suggest Manchester City are currently leading the race to secure the highly rated youngster’s signature.
Leicester monitoring United prospects
Meanwhile, Leicester are keeping tabs on Manchester United’s U21 duo Jack and Tyler Fletcher.
According to journalist Alan Nixon, as reported by Football League World, Leicester scouts, along with others, were “keeping a watchful eye” on the sons of former United midfielder Darren during their match against Barnsley in the EFL Trophy.
Jack is an attacking midfielder, while Tyler excels at protecting the defence in a deeper midfield role.
However, it’s believed both youngsters are “turning heads” at United, and Jack is “seen as the closest to breaking into the first team group alongside Lacey at this present moment.”
Therefore, Leicester are unlikely to be able to tempt them into a move to the Championship.
