Leicester City’s turbulent campaign took another bitter twist at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday night, as a 96th-minute equaliser from Middlesbrough’s Luke Ayling sparked fury among Foxes supporters — many of whom are now calling for manager Marti Cifuentes to be sacked immediately.
What should have been a much-needed home win instead turned into another episode of familiar frustration. Leicester took the lead in the first half through a Jordan Ayew penalty, and with Middlesbrough reduced to 10 men late on, the stage was set for a rare three points. But once again, the Foxes failed to show the composure or bite needed to see the game out.
That moment came deep into stoppage time. With the home crowd already anxious, Ayling rose unmarked to nod home a late corner, handing Boro an unlikely point and plunging Leicester deeper into crisis. The draw made it just one win in their last ten games, with fans now beyond breaking point.
Social media platforms were rife with emotional reactions after the final whistle, with the overwhelming theme being a call for Marti Cifuentes to be relieved of his duties. Supporters slammed the coach’s tactical setup, his game management, and even the attitude of the players — labelling them unmotivated and indifferent to the badge.
One fan said:
“I think Marti Cifuentes needs to go. The players look completely clueless.”
Another made a brutal comparison:
“Steve Cooper, RVN and now Marti Cifuentes – The worst trio of consecutive managers since Allan, Megson and Holloway.”
The anger didn’t stop at just the manager. Some directed their frustration upwards, questioning the leadership at the club under chairman Top Srivaddhanaprabha.
“Get out of my club Marti Cifuentes. Get out of my club Top. The ownership of King Power was excellent under The Boss, but his legacy has been ruined by his son,” said another fan, referencing the late and beloved owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.
Even comparisons with other struggling managers surfaced:
“Marti Cifuentes unironically worse than Russell Martin.”
Others simply declared the end of their patience:
“Goodbye Marti Cifuentes. I’d say it’s been a pleasure, but it hasn’t, get out the club. Rotten.”
With Leicester now languishing in the bottom half of the Championship, and a mood of disillusionment growing thicker in the stands each week, the stakes ahead of Saturday’s trip to Norwich could not be higher. Many believe that anything short of a win should – and will – result in immediate action from the board.
What was once a club known for its spirit, unity and story-book success now risks slipping into full-blown dysfunction, unless the tide turns quickly.
The question now isn’t whether the fans are behind the manager – it’s whether the club still is.
