Celtic fans have blasted Kasper Schmeichel after the goalkeeper skipped the Hoops to watch another team on Sunday.
Martin O’Neill’s side were up against St Mirren at Hampden in a huge Scottish Cup semi final, yet Schmeichel was in a completely different country.
The 39 year old, who remains under contract at Parkhead but is unlikely to play for the club again, decided not to make the trip to the national stadium.
Instead, the experienced shot stopper headed south to the Etihad for the Premier League’s high profile clash between Manchester City and Arsenal.
It was a crucial day in the English title race as Schmeichel’s former club City aimed to cut the gap at the top to just three points.
Meanwhile in Glasgow, Celtic were battling the Saints at Hampden for the second time this season, with both teams chasing a place in the final.
Schmeichel was in goal back in December when the Buddies shocked Wilfried Nancy’s side 3 1 to end their 12 year wait for a major trophy.
However, it now appears very likely the Danish keeper has already played his last game for the club, and possibly his final match in football, after a serious injury setback.
His deal at Parkhead runs out this summer and he is not expected to regain full fitness until well into next season.
Even so, many supporters believe he should have been present at Hampden to support his teammates.
Schmeichel posted two images on his Instagram story before kick off, drawing attention to the two major fixtures he had his eye on.

He shared a photo of himself in a Celtic shirt with the caption: “Big day of football ahead! Come on the boys.”
He then followed it with a picture from the Etihad holding the Premier League trophy, adding: “Big game at the Etihad as well. Reunited with an old friend.”
Schmeichel was referring to his famous title win with Leicester City in 2016.
But the Parkhead faithful were far from impressed by his choice to miss the semi final.
Reacting on X, one fan said: “Kasper Schmeichel is still a Celtic player its a semi final of the Scottish Cup and he’s not here for it, he’s watching Man City vs Arsenal instead? Absolutely shameful imo. As a leader he should be in that dressing room helping.”
Another said: “Schmeichel has chosen to watch Man City over Celtic. Shocking.”
A third added: “Can’t believe Schmeichel isn’t even at Hampden today and is watchin Man City vs Arsenal instead.”
