Per The Athletic, some clubs had been inquiring on his situation near the end of the season as he entered the final year of his deal.
But Leeds wrapped up proceedings quickly, with club chairman Paraag Marathe saying that this was one of the things the club did not hesitate before approving. Marathe had some words after the deal was confirmed.
“It is great to have our captain locked up and here.” he said speaking to BBC Radio Leeds.
“He represents everything we want on and off the pitch and I think it’s a great signal to the market, in advance to the transfer window as well, about what we’re about as a club.”
Leeds now secure one of their standout performers from recent seasons, allowing the focus to shift towards further squad enhancements heading into the next campaign.
