It is against that backdrop that Hearts identified a creative attacking option who had quietly enjoyed one of the most productive seasons in the league — a player who stood out statistically for both goals created and chances supplied, drawing attention from across the division.
Before long, Hearts moved decisively to secure his signature — but only after acting quickly to finalise the deal amid growing interest.
The player in question is former Celtic academy graduate Calvin Miller, who has now officially joined Hearts as their third summer signing following his move from Falkirk.
The winger was a standout performer in the Scottish Premiership last season, finishing top of the assist charts with nine, while also ranking fourth for chances created — behind only Will Ferry, James Tavernier and Alexandros Kyziridis.
His consistency and output made him one of the most sought-after domestic performers, prompting Hearts to sanction a six-figure fee and secure him on a three-year contract at Tynecastle Park.
He now links up with Josh McPake and MJ Kamson-Kamara as part of Hearts’ growing summer rebuild, with further arrivals expected, including French duo Tom Renaud and Amadou Ba-Sy.
A statement read: “We are delighted to announce our latest signing of the summer transfer window; Calvin Miller.
“Joining on June 25th on a three-year-deal, Calvin moves from Falkirk for an undisclosed fee, subject to SFA approval. Welcome, Calvin!”
Miller’s career path has been anything but straightforward. He originally emerged from Celtic’s academy system as a left-back under Brendan Rodgers, making five senior appearances before loan spells at Dundee and Ayr United gave him early first-team experience.
A move to England followed, where he featured for Harrogate Town, Notts County and Chesterfield, before returning north with Greenock Morton.
It was his switch to Falkirk that reignited his career, joining them while they were still in League One. Under John McGlynn, he developed into a key attacking outlet, scoring in double figures across consecutive seasons as Falkirk secured back-to-back promotions into the Championship and then the Premiership.
