Aston Villa target Jaydee Canvot ‘has been granted travel permission’ as Crystal Palace hasten to secure his arrival swiftly.
Villa manager Unai Emery has been searching for another centre-back to bolster his squad after his options diminished with Axel Disasi returning to Chelsea following the end of his loan.
Toulouse centre-back Canvot, a France Under-20s international, is a player Aston Villa admire and have recently attempted to acquire.
Aston Villa submitted an offer for Canvot ten days ago, and although it was declined, they were anticipated to return with a revised bid.
In the interim, the Toulouse talent turned down a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia, raising the prospects for other clubs.
Then on Friday, it surfaced that Crystal Palace had made a move for Canvot and settled on a €27m fee with Toulouse for the centre-back.
Now, cautious of a possible interception, the Eagles are acting quickly, and according to French journalist Fabrice Hawkins, Canvot is en route to England.
The defender ‘has been granted travel permission’ by Toulouse and will travel to London on Saturday.
Crystal Palace are now working to finalize the contract that Canvot will sign at Selhurst Park with his representatives.
They still face challenges in this regard, with no complete agreement on personal terms reached with Canvot.
Palace could potentially lose Marc Guehi, and securing Canvot’s arrival will ease their concerns.
This transfer could also have a ripple effect on another Premier League club.
West Ham United are now interested in Canvot’s fellow Toulouse centre-back Charlie Cresswell.
However, losing Canvot may make Toulouse hesitant to allow Cresswell to move to the London Stadium before the transfer window closes on Monday evening.
