EXCLUSIVE — SFA have revealed their OFFICIAL Stance STATEMENT on John Beaton’s Controversial Penalty to Celtic that’s been branded “WORSE VAR DECISION in History”

The SFA are reportedly backing John Beaton’s decision to controversially award Celtic a penalty against Motherwell.

Midfielder Sam Nicholson challenged for a header with Hoops defender Auston Trusty in the dying moments of the match at Fir Park, with the score locked at 2-2.

After the two players competed for Anthony Ralston’s long throw and Nicholson had seemingly cleared the danger, Andrew Dallas in the VAR room stepped in to highlight a possible handball offence to referee John Beaton — who then pointed to the spot.

Kelechi Iheanacho converted from 12 yards to spark wild celebrations in the away section and set up a final-day showdown for the Premiership title.

Had the match finished level, Celtic would have gone into Saturday’s clash with Hearts knowing they needed to win by three goals to secure the Scottish title.

The incident has triggered intense debate — with some describing the call as “the worst VAR decision in history” — while both Hearts manager Derek McInnes and Motherwell boss Jens Berthel Askou challenged Beaton’s decision.

However, The Telegraph reports that Hampden chiefs are supporting Beaton’s VAR-assisted call and believe the decision was “correct”.

Head of Refereeing Operations Willie Collum is also expected to comment publicly on the controversial incident, although not until he appears on Sky Sports for the monthly VAR review programme.

That broadcast is expected to air next week following the conclusion of the Scottish Premiership season.
