NafisaRangers have confirmed a significant change behind the scenes after chief financial officer James Taylor left the Ibrox club to take up the same position at West Ham United.
Taylor spent almost three years working at Rangers and played a key role in the club’s financial operations during a period of significant change both on and off the pitch.
His departure sees him make the move to England, where he will take charge of West Ham’s finances as the club continues its own efforts to rebuild and push towards a return to the Premier League.
Taylor confirmed the move in a post on LinkedIn, revealing that his appointment at West Ham remains subject to the usual approvals.
The former Rangers executive also admitted he was impressed by the size of West Ham and the passion surrounding the London club, while making clear that he intends to help them achieve their ambitions.
“Pleased to share that I’ve joined West Ham United as CFO, subject to the usual approvals,” Taylor said.
“The size of the club and the passion of our supporters continues to impress. I’m determined to play my part in returning this club to where it belongs.”
The move also reunites Taylor with two former Rangers colleagues, Nils Koppen and Karim Virani, who are now working at West Ham.
Taylor admitted that the opportunity to work with the pair again played a significant role in his decision to make the switch.
“It’s also great to be working with Nils Koppen and Karim Virani again. I know the standards both set and how they operate when the pressure is on, and that was a significant part of the decision.”
Taylor’s departure brings an end to almost three years at Ibrox, with the finance chief reflecting positively on the work completed during his time at the club.
“Before this, three years at Rangers. I’m proud of the improvements made both on and off the pitch during my time at Ibrox.”
His exit comes as Rangers continue to operate in an increasingly demanding financial environment, with the club attempting to balance investment in the playing squad with the need for strong financial management.
Taylor will now face a similar challenge at West Ham, who are looking to rebuild after a difficult period and secure their place back in England’s top flight.
The new West Ham CFO also acknowledged the scale of the task ahead.
“There is a serious amount of work ahead and a strong group to do it with. I’m looking forward to working closely with the Board and with colleagues across the club.”
He ended his announcement with a simple message to his new supporters: “Come on you Irons.”
For Rangers, Taylor’s departure means another important figure has moved on from the Ibrox hierarchy. His replacement will now inherit responsibility for maintaining the financial progress made during Taylor’s spell while supporting the club’s wider ambitions on the football side.
Meanwhile, Taylor begins a new chapter at West Ham alongside two familiar faces from his Rangers days.
