Leeds United agree transfer deal for exception star as Elland Road close in on £40m plus add ons transfer done deal

Leeds United supporters have spent weeks waiting for the club to officially unveil what could become one of the biggest signings in their recent history.

The deal has appeared to be edging closer for some time, with personal terms agreed, club-to-club negotiations completed and widespread confidence that everything is moving in the right direction.

Yet despite all the optimism, the announcement has still not arrived, leaving many supporters wondering exactly what is causing the delay.

Fortunately for Leeds, the latest update suggests there is no cause for concern.

The Whites are now expected to welcome James Trafford for his medical later this week as the club moves towards completing a deal worth more than £40 million from Manchester City.

The England international has always been Daniel Farke’s first-choice target to strengthen the goalkeeping department, and after weeks of speculation, the transfer is finally entering its final stages.

One of the biggest reasons behind the wait has been Trafford’s post-World Cup break.

Like every member of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad, the 23-year-old was granted a mandatory three-week holiday following the tournament, with this week marking the end of that period.

Although Trafford could choose to return early, his scheduled medical is now expected to take place as Leeds prepare to complete the club-record transfer.

Speaking on talkSPORT, journalist Alex Crook confirmed the latest development.

«”Let’s just focus on Leeds, shall we? They obviously came from behind to beat Liverpool. James Trafford, we’re expecting to undergo a medical this week ahead of a £40million move from Manchester City.”»

Former Premier League midfielder Kevin Nolan believes Leeds are landing one of England’s brightest talents.

«”Fantastic signing for me. I think once they get that over the line, that’s going to be a big, big plus for them. And, a big, big plus for England as well, I see this lad as the future No1 and the one taking over Jordan Pickford.”»

The timing also works perfectly for Leeds.

The squad has now returned to Thorp Arch following a successful pre-season tour of the United States, which ended with an impressive 4-2 victory over Liverpool in Chicago.

With preparations for the new Premier League campaign entering their final phase, Trafford’s arrival would provide Farke with the goalkeeper he has wanted throughout the summer.

Despite understandable nerves among supporters, there has been little indication that the transfer has ever been in danger.

Trafford has remained fully committed to joining Leeds, believing Elland Road offers him the ideal platform to establish himself as a first-choice Premier League goalkeeper and continue his development with both club and country.

Assuming the medical proceeds as expected this week, Leeds will finally be able to announce one of the most significant signings of the 49ers era—one many supporters believe sends a powerful statement about the club’s ambitions following their return to the Premier League.
