NafisaDaniel Farke has made no secret of his ambition to establish Leeds United as a permanent Premier League force, and the club’s activity in the transfer market suggests the hierarchy are determined to back their manager.
The Whites have already made an impressive start to the summer by landing highly-rated free agent Harry Wilson before completing a blockbuster deal for defender Tarik Muharemovic as preparations continue for the new campaign.
But strengthening between the posts remains one of the biggest priorities at Elland Road.
Following Karl Darlow’s departure to Manchester United, Leeds are currently left with Lucas Perri and Alex Cairns as their senior goalkeeping options. Perri has also been linked with a possible exit, increasing the urgency for Farke to recruit another reliable shot-stopper before the Premier League season begins.
Now, Leeds have reportedly been presented with an unexpected opportunity.
According to TEAMtalk, Brighton & Hove Albion have offered goalkeeper Carl Rushworth to a number of Premier League clubs, including Leeds United and Newcastle United.
Rushworth spent last season on loan at Coventry City, where he impressed with a series of commanding performances that helped the Sky Blues secure promotion.
The 25-year-old is understood to be keen on leaving Brighton permanently after finding his route to first-team football blocked by Bart Verbruggen, who remains firmly established as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.
Reports also suggest Rushworth has no intention of signing a new contract with the Seagulls, prompting Brighton to cash in now rather than risk losing him for a reduced fee later.
Despite his limited opportunities in Brighton’s first team, Rushworth continues to be regarded as one of England’s brightest goalkeeping talents and has earned recognition at youth international level.
However, Leeds’ long-term priority may still lie elsewhere.
The Whites continue to monitor Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford, who remains Daniel Farke’s dream target this summer.
Trafford has been away representing England at the World Cup and is expected to make a decision on his future once the tournament concludes.
The 23-year-old is yet to establish himself as Manchester City’s first-choice goalkeeper, with his path blocked by established competition, leading to growing speculation that he could seek regular football elsewhere.
Journalist Graham Smyth has previously reported that Leeds are prepared to remain patient while awaiting Trafford’s decision, believing he would be the ideal addition to Farke’s squad.
Newcastle United are also monitoring the situation closely, meaning Leeds could face significant competition should Trafford become available.
With the transfer window entering a crucial phase, Leeds may soon have an important decision to make.
Whether they move quickly for the available Rushworth or continue waiting in the hope of landing Trafford, the goalkeeping position remains one of the club’s biggest priorities as Farke looks to complete his squad for the Premier League challenge ahead.
