NafisaThe transfer window may be entering its final month, but Leeds United supporters have every reason to believe the busiest part of the summer is still to come.
Despite months of speculation surrounding dozens of names, Daniel Farke has so far welcomed only two new faces through the doors at Elland Road.
For many clubs, that would be a cause for concern.
Inside Leeds, however, there is a growing feeling that the calm before the storm is almost over.
The Whites adopted a similar approach last summer, remaining patient while other Premier League clubs rushed through early deals. That strategy eventually saw Leeds complete a major squad rebuild, bringing in 10 new players and investing around £100 million before the deadline.
The signs suggest history could be about to repeat itself.
Leeds have refused to panic in the market, choosing instead to focus on long-term targets rather than quick fixes. Their pursuit of Harry Wilson eventually paid off, while a significant £34 million deal for Tarik Muharemovic was completed to strengthen the defence following Pascal Struijk’s departure.
But behind the scenes, the recruitment team have been working on far more than the two arrivals already confirmed.
According to Sky Sports reporter Zinny Boswell, Leeds are preparing for another busy finish to the transfer window, with as many as six more first-team signings still expected before the deadline.
James Trafford remains the club’s immediate priority, with the Manchester City goalkeeper edging closer to completing a move to Elland Road as the final details of the agreement continue to be ironed out.
Once that deal is completed, Leeds are expected to accelerate several other transfer plans.
The Whites are believed to be targeting another goalkeeper to provide cover, a full-back, a creative winger capable of operating as a number 10, a central midfielder and a new striker.
One familiar name remains firmly on the club’s radar.
Southampton midfielder Shea Charles is still admired by Leeds despite negotiations stalling earlier in the window. The Yorkshire club walked away after failing to reach an agreement but have deliberately left the door open should Southampton soften their stance before deadline day.
Further forward, Leeds have reportedly revived their interest in Brazilian attacker Igor Paixao, with Graham Smyth revealing the winger is once again under consideration as Farke searches for more creativity.
The goalkeeping department also looks set for further changes.
Lucas Perri is expected to leave on loan once Trafford arrives, meaning Leeds will need another goalkeeper to compete alongside their incoming No.1.
Defensively, the departure of Sam Byram has left Gabriel Gudmundsson without natural cover at full-back, making another defensive signing increasingly likely.
Leeds are also expected to strengthen in attack.
While Dominic Calvert-Lewin shouldered much of the goalscoring responsibility last season, the club are understood to be searching for another centre-forward capable of easing that burden during a demanding Premier League campaign.
With an entire month still remaining in the transfer window, Leeds’ business appears to be far from complete.
If current plans come to fruition, supporters could witness one of the busiest finishes to a transfer window anywhere in the Premier League as Farke continues building a squad capable of competing comfortably back in the top flight.
