NafisaJack Harrison’s long association with Leeds United appears to be drawing to a close after fresh reports suggested Daniel Farke has made a firm decision on the winger’s future ahead of the new Premier League season.
With Leeds continuing an ambitious rebuild under Farke following promotion, difficult decisions are once again being made behind the scenes as the German coach shapes a squad capable of surviving and thriving in the top flight.
While several new faces have already arrived at Elland Road, departures remain just as important, and Harrison is now believed to be among the players heading for the exit.
The 29-year-old’s situation has changed dramatically over the past 12 months. After spending two successive seasons on loan at Everton, many supporters expected his Leeds career to end permanently last summer.
Instead, Farke opted to reintegrate the experienced winger into his first-team plans, believing his Premier League experience could prove valuable during the club’s return to the top flight.
That decision, however, never truly paid off.
Harrison struggled to establish himself as a regular starter and found opportunities increasingly difficult to come by as the campaign progressed. Despite being given another chance to prove himself at Elland Road, he failed to convince Farke that he deserved a long-term place in the team.
By the January transfer window, it had become clear that both player and club were ready to move in different directions. Harrison pushed for another move away and eventually secured a loan switch to Serie A side Fiorentina in an attempt to reignite his career.
The move to Italy, though, proved equally disappointing.
Harrison was unable to make the impact Fiorentina had hoped for, with his performances failing to justify a permanent transfer. As a result, the Italian club declined to activate the option to buy included in the agreement, sending the winger back to West Yorkshire this summer with his future once again uncertain.
Now, according to Football Insider journalist Pete O’Rourke, Leeds have finally reached a definitive decision.
The report claims the Whites have sanctioned Harrison’s departure this summer and are actively working to secure a move before the transfer window closes. While a permanent transfer would be the preferred outcome, Leeds are reportedly prepared to approve another loan if that helps remove the player from their wage bill.
Financially, Harrison’s departure would represent a significant boost.
The winger remains one of the club’s highest earners and is still contracted until 2028, meaning moving him on would free up valuable salary space while also creating room for further additions to Farke’s squad. With Leeds continuing to pursue reinforcements in several positions, reducing the wage bill has become an important part of the club’s transfer strategy.
His absence from pre-season preparations has only strengthened the belief that his Elland Road career is effectively over.
Harrison has not been spotted in Leeds’ recent training footage or promotional content released by the club, leading many supporters to conclude that he is training separately while his representatives work to secure his next move.
The situation mirrors what happened with Patrick Bamford last summer, when the striker was omitted from Leeds’ pre-season tour after learning he was no longer part of Farke’s plans. Bamford eventually left the club, and Harrison now appears to be following a similar path.
Leeds’ decision also reflects the direction the club is taking under Farke. Rather than relying on players whose futures remain uncertain, the manager wants a committed group fully focused on the challenge ahead.
The arrivals of players such as Harry Wilson and Tarik Muharemovic underline that ambition, while further additions are expected before the transfer window closes.
For Harrison, the writing now seems firmly on the wall.
Once one of Leeds’ most influential players during their Premier League years, the winger now looks set to end his time at Elland Road after a difficult period that included loan spells at Everton and Fiorentina.
