NafisaLeeds United’s search for a new first-choice goalkeeper has taken another dramatic twist after fresh reports claimed the Whites have already seen a substantial offer rejected for Parma star Zion Suzuki.
Daniel Farke has made strengthening between the posts one of his biggest priorities this summer following Karl Darlow’s departure, with Leeds already making major statements in the transfer market through the arrivals of Harry Wilson and £34million defender Tarik Muharemovic.
Now, attention has turned to finding the club’s new No.1.
Suzuki has been heavily linked with a move to Elland Road in recent weeks after impressing for Parma and enhancing his growing reputation during the World Cup with Japan.
While reports in England have suggested Leeds are simply monitoring the situation, fresh claims from Italy indicate negotiations may be much further advanced.
According to Italian journalist Luca Cerchione, Leeds submitted an offer worth around €30 million (£25.4m) plus bonuses in an attempt to sign the 23-year-old goalkeeper.
However, the proposal was reportedly turned down immediately.
Juventus are also said to have failed with an approach, as Parma continue to stand firm over their valuation.
The Serie A side are reportedly demanding an eye-watering €40 million (£34m) before they will even consider allowing Suzuki to leave this summer.
Such a figure would make the Japanese international one of the most expensive goalkeepers in Leeds United’s history and presents a significant dilemma for the club’s recruitment team.
Suzuki has undoubtedly enjoyed a rapid rise over the past year.
His performances for Parma established him as one of Serie A’s brightest young goalkeepers before he further enhanced his reputation on the international stage with Japan during the World Cup.
Those displays appear to have convinced Parma they can command a premium fee, with the Italian club seemingly determined to maximise his market value while interest continues to grow.
Despite Suzuki’s obvious quality, Leeds are unlikely to rush into meeting Parma’s demands.
The Whites continue to admire Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford, who remains one of Daniel Farke’s preferred options following England’s World Cup campaign.
Trafford already possesses Premier League experience and is widely regarded as one of England’s brightest young goalkeepers, meaning Leeds may decide that paying only slightly more for the City shot-stopper would represent better long-term value.
For now, Leeds’ goalkeeping plans remain open.
Whether they return with an improved offer for Suzuki or intensify their pursuit of Trafford remains to be seen, but one thing is becoming increasingly clear—Parma have no intention of selling one of their prized assets on the cheap.
With the new Premier League season fast approaching, Leeds know they cannot afford to wait forever, and the coming days could prove decisive in determining who will become Daniel Farke’s new No.1.
