NafisaRangers have moved a huge step closer to securing one of their biggest signings of the summer after Jens Hjerto-Dahl reportedly agreed personal terms over a move to Ibrox, with a transfer now edging towards completion.
Derek McInnes has made the Norwegian midfielder one of his priority targets as he continues reshaping the Rangers squad following last season’s disappointing third-place finish in the Scottish Premiership.
The Light Blues have already strengthened with the arrivals of Lawrence Shankland, Ben Godfrey, Dan Neil, Ross McCrorie, Cammy Devlin and Ivor Pandur, but the rebuild is far from over.
Now, Hjerto-Dahl appears to be next in line.
According to GIVEMESPORT correspondent Sam Cohen, the 20-year-old has agreed personal terms with Rangers after being convinced by McInnes’ vision for the club.
Perhaps even more significantly, the report claims Hjerto-Dahl rejected interest from Celtic, despite receiving contract proposals from both Glasgow rivals.
The midfielder is said to have made it clear that Rangers are his preferred destination after holding positive discussions with McInnes, believing the Ibrox project offers him the best platform for his development.
Hjerto-Dahl enjoyed an outstanding campaign with Tromso, scoring six goals and providing two assists in just 13 appearances, performances that attracted interest from across Europe.
Championship side Cardiff City previously saw a bid worth around £5.5 million rejected, with Tromso continuing to value the highly-rated youngster at approximately £6.6 million (€7.8m) plus add-ons.
Rangers have already had two offers turned down, but negotiations are understood to have accelerated significantly over the last 24 hours.
A club-to-club agreement is now believed to be close, with Rangers simultaneously working on outgoing transfers to generate the funds required to complete the deal.
McInnes has shown throughout the summer that he is determined to build a younger, hungrier squad capable of challenging for major honours again.
The departures of experienced names such as James Tavernier and Jack Butland, coupled with a series of ambitious new signings, underline the scale of the rebuild currently taking place at Ibrox.
Landing Hjerto-Dahl would represent another major statement of intent.
Widely regarded as one of Norway’s brightest young midfielders, the 20-year-old would add energy, technical quality and creativity to Rangers’ midfield while providing another exciting long-term asset for the club.
