NafisaLeeds United’s long-running pursuit of Igor Paixão has suddenly gathered fresh momentum after reports from France suggested Marseille are actively preparing for the Brazilian’s departure.
Daniel Farke has already strengthened key areas of his squad this summer with the arrivals of Harry Wilson and Tarik Muharemovic, while club-record goalkeeper James Trafford is also expected to complete his long-awaited move to Elland Road soon.
With those deals nearing completion, Leeds are now turning their attention towards adding more firepower in attack, and Paixão has once again emerged as one of the club’s priority targets.
However, the Whites are facing serious competition.
Premier League rivals Aston Villa have also registered an interest in the Marseille winger, raising the possibility of another transfer tug-of-war for one of Europe’s most exciting attacking talents.
Marseille’s financial situation has placed several first-team stars on the market, with the French giants looking to reduce their wage bill before completing further arrivals.
That has opened the door for Leeds to revive their long-standing interest in Paixão after missing out on the Brazilian last summer.

Ali Said also suggested Paixão’s exit is now expected.
“Paixao is done, I think he’ll leave. OM wants to sell everything that has market value, so the three central defenders, plus Paixao, Gouiri, Hojbjerg,” he stated.
Those comments have only intensified speculation surrounding the winger’s future.
Despite the uncertainty, Paixão continues to impress whenever called upon.
The Brazilian reminded everyone of his quality by scoring with a superb header during Marseille’s friendly against Qatari side Al-Shahaniya, showing exactly why clubs across Europe remain eager to secure his signature.
For Leeds, signing Paixão would represent another huge statement of intent following promotion back to the Premier League.
The Brazilian would provide creativity, pace and goals from the left flank—qualities Daniel Farke is still keen to add before the transfer window closes.
However, Aston Villa’s involvement could complicate matters considerably.
Villa can offer established Premier League football and European ambitions, while Paixão previously rejected Leeds in favour of Champions League football when he chose Marseille over a move to Elland Road last summer.
That history naturally raises concerns among Leeds supporters.
Even so, circumstances have changed significantly.
Marseille are now actively looking to cash in, Leeds have returned to the Premier League, and the Yorkshire club are once again prepared to test the French side’s resolve.
