NafisaJack Harrison has finally broken his silence after ending his Leeds United career, insisting his latest move is “the best decision” he has made in football – comments many supporters are already interpreting as a thinly-veiled dig at his time at Elland Road.
The winger’s future had been effectively decided long before the summer transfer window gathered pace. Daniel Farke left Harrison out of Leeds United’s pre-season tour of the United States, making it abundantly clear that the former fan favourite no longer featured in the club’s long-term plans.
That decision paved the way for Harrison to seal a permanent move to MLS outfit New England Revolution, bringing an end to a turbulent spell that saw his relationship with Leeds supporters deteriorate beyond repair.
The 28-year-old had spent the second half of last season on loan with Fiorentina after previously spending two campaigns at Everton following Leeds’ relegation from the Premier League. Neither club moved to sign him permanently, leaving Harrison to return to West Yorkshire once again.
However, there was never any realistic prospect of him staying.
Leeds were keen to remove his wages from the books, while Harrison himself was looking for a fresh start after failing to reconnect with supporters following his controversial departure on loan immediately after relegation.
Now officially unveiled as New England Revolution’s newest designated player, Harrison could barely hide his excitement.
Speaking after completing the move, the winger admitted the reception he has received in the United States has left a huge impression on him.
“The fans were incredible. I’ve never been recognised on the field like that before.
“I said to my agent the other day that this has been the best signing that I’ve done in my career so far.”
Those comments are already attracting attention among Leeds supporters, many of whom believe they represent an indirect swipe at his time at Elland Road after the difficult final chapter of his Whites career.
Harrison had once been one of Leeds’ most influential players under Marcelo Bielsa and played a key role in the club’s promotion to the Premier League before helping them survive in the top flight.
But everything changed following relegation in 2023.
His decision to immediately leave on loan frustrated a large section of the fanbase, and when he eventually returned last summer, many supporters had already turned against him.
Although Daniel Farke attempted to reintegrate the winger into the first-team squad, Harrison struggled to make any meaningful impact before another temporary move, this time to Fiorentina.
That loan also failed to revive his fortunes, making a permanent departure this summer inevitable.
With Leeds now building a squad capable of competing in the Premier League again, Harrison’s exit allows the Whites to continue reshaping the team under Farke, while the winger begins what he hopes will be a happier chapter across the Atlantic.
Judging by his first public comments after completing the move, Harrison believes walking away from Leeds and embracing a new challenge in Major League Soccer was exactly the fresh start he had been searching for.
