NafisaRangers’ summer rebuild under Derek McInnes is showing no signs of slowing down, with the new manager continuing to reshape his squad ahead of the new season.
After strengthening key positions with several new arrivals, attention has now turned to trimming the squad as players who no longer feature in McInnes’ plans prepare to move on.
The Ibrox boss has made it clear that reputation alone will not guarantee anyone a place in his squad. A number of established names have already departed, while others have been informed they are free to seek opportunities elsewhere as Rangers continue their ruthless overhaul.
Now, another high-profile exit appears to be just hours away, with reports suggesting one of the club’s biggest transfer disappointments is finally set to leave Glasgow.
Danilo closing in on Rangers exit
According to the Daily Record, Brazilian striker Danilo is expected to complete his move to Botafogo on Wednesday, July 16, bringing an end to his frustrating spell at Ibrox.
The report claims the deal could be finalised tomorrow, although the exact structure of the transfer has yet to be confirmed.
Previous reports suggested Rangers and Botafogo were discussing a loan-to-buy agreement, which would give the Brazilian club the option of making the move permanent if Danilo impresses.
The 26-year-old still has a contract at Rangers until 2028, meaning the Light Blues would retain some protection should the move initially be completed on loan.
However, after falling out of Derek McInnes’ first-team plans, Danilo’s departure now appears inevitable.
The arrival of Lawrence Shankland, together with the presence of Youssef Chermiti and Ryan Naderi, has pushed the Brazilian further down the attacking pecking order, leaving him with little prospect of regular football at Ibrox.
Danilo arrived in Glasgow during Michael Beale’s 2023 summer rebuild amid high expectations following his prolific spell in the Netherlands.
Unfortunately for both player and club, injuries and inconsistent form prevented him from making the impact Rangers supporters had hoped for.
His expected exit would mark another significant step in McInnes’ efforts to reshape the squad and move away from the disappointing recruitment of the Beale era.
