Rangers have officially completed the signing of Scotland international Kirsty Smith, with the defender putting pen to paper on a two-year contract that will keep her at Ibrox until the summer of 2028.
The move sees Smith make an emotional return to Scottish football after spending the last eight years south of the border, most recently representing Nottingham Forest following previous spells with Manchester United and West Ham.
Having left Hibernian back in 2018, Smith has since built an impressive career across England’s top divisions while also becoming one of Scotland’s most experienced internationals, collecting more than 60 senior caps for her country.
Now, she returns north of the border ready to begin a new chapter with Rangers as Leanne Crichton continues strengthening her squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
Speaking after officially completing the move, Smith admitted the opportunity to return home was one she simply could not ignore.
“It’s nice to be home. I’ve spent eight years down in England and really enjoyed it, but Rangers is such a massive club. As soon as I heard there was interest, it was something I wanted to be part of.”
The experienced defender also explained that Rangers’ ambitions played a major role in convincing her to sign.
“You always want to be competing for trophies and that’s exactly what Rangers are aiming to do. I’m looking forward to getting started, meeting everyone and hopefully helping the team have a successful season.”
Smith arrives with a wealth of experience that Rangers hope will prove invaluable over the coming seasons. Comfortable across multiple defensive positions, she brings versatility, leadership and top-level experience after competing in both the Women’s Super League and Women’s Championship in England.
Her return also gives Crichton another proven international who understands the demands of winning at the highest level and adds further depth to a squad determined to challenge for major honours.
After years away developing her game, Rangers supporters will now hope Smith’s homecoming proves to be one of the club’s smartest pieces of business this summer as preparations continue for another title push.
