Leeds United winger Harry Wilson has received an emotional farewell from his former club Fulham, with the London side wishing him success at Elland Road—except for two fixtures each season.
Wilson officially completed his move from Craven Cottage to Leeds United this summer, with the free transfer confirmed on Wednesday, almost a year after the Whites’ unsuccessful attempt to sign him on deadline day.
The 29-year-old has penned a four-year contract and is expected to link up with Daniel Farke’s squad during pre-season alongside his fellow Welsh internationals.
Wilson leaves Fulham after an impressive five-year spell in west London, during which he developed into one of the Premier League’s most dependable attacking players.
Across 187 appearances, the winger registered 36 goals and 46 assists, establishing himself as a consistent creative force for the Cottagers.
His final campaign proved to be his finest in a Fulham shirt, producing career-best numbers before seeing out the final months of his contract and completing his long-awaited switch to Elland Road.
Following confirmation of the transfer, Fulham released a heartfelt statement celebrating Wilson’s contribution to the club.
They said: “Harry Wilson has left Fulham and joined Leeds United following the expiry of his contract.
“It brings the curtain down on a prolific five years in SW6 for the winger, as he departs with 82 goal involvements (36G, 46A) in 187 games for the Club…The vast majority of his strikes were special, too. From long range curlers, to last season’s trivela against Crystal Palace, tap-ins weren’t really part of Wilson’s armoury.
“He also added a Player of the Season trophy to his collection this summer, following a career best year that saw him register 11 goals and eight assists in just 38 Premier League and FA Cup matches, a record of one goal involvement every other game. A very friendly man who always made time for the fans, Wilson departs with a fantastic Fulham legacy, and we wish him the best of luck – two games a season aside – at Leeds.”
The message reflected just how highly Wilson was regarded throughout his time at Craven Cottage, where his spectacular goals and approachable personality helped him become a firm favourite among supporters.
The Wales international has already admitted in interviews with the Yorkshire Evening Post and other local outlets that he leaves London with friendships he expects to keep for life.
Those relationships will briefly be put aside when Fulham travel to Elland Road on December 19, with Wilson preparing to face many of his former teammates for the first time since his departure.
Fulham sporting director Tony Khan also paid tribute to the attacker, saying:
“I would like to thank Harry for his dedication and commitment to Fulham over the last five years. His flair and tenacity on the pitch made him a firm fan favourite, and his memorable goals even more so.
“He is also a truly great person and will be missed around the training ground, but we wish him all the very best for the future and thank him for his time with the Club. Thank you, Harry!”
