Wolves are now officially an EFL Championship side following their Premier League relegation, with head coach Rob Edwards keen to assess returning loan players.
According to Express & Star, one player Wolves will not retain is Yerson Mosquera, as the defender’s representatives have reached an agreement with the club for a summer exit.
That leaves Edwards short in defensive options, and potentially increases the likelihood of Djiga being handed an opportunity at the Molineux Stadium.
One of the key reasons behind Rangers stepping away from a move for Djiga may be Wolves’ anticipated valuation.
Either way, the 49ers may not be overly concerned, as it increasingly looks like he will either remain at Wolves or move elsewhere this summer—just not Rangers.
Who could Rangers sign instead of Djiga? One defender Rangers will be keen to retain is Emmanuel Fernandez, who impressed in his debut season at Ibrox and is expected to attract transfer interest this summer.
The same cannot be said for John Souttar, who remains one of Rohl’s limited senior centre-back options heading into pre-season.
Dujon Sterling could provide cover, but Dundee FC defender Luke Graham is emerging as the leading candidate to anchor Rangers’ defence next season.
It has been reported that the Scottish youngster would be reluctant to join a club where he is not guaranteed regular starts.
He could become Rangers’ second signing following Lawrence Shankland, with further additions expected to follow.
