Crystal Palace could potentially swoop in and derail Manchester United’s pursuit of Conor Gallagher if the midfielder makes a return to the Premier League.
That is according to former Everton, Aston Villa and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, who told Football Insider that the Atletico Madrid midfielder would be an “ideal fit” for the Eagles.
Man United are also monitoring Gallagher’s situation, with the England international potentially available for as little as £26 million during the January transfer window.
Gallagher previously spent the 2021-22 season on loan at Crystal Palace from Chelsea, where he impressed enough to be named the club’s Player of the Season.

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness – who was in charge at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now operates a football consultancy advising top clubs – believes any deal for Gallagher is more likely to materialise in the summer rather than January.
Speaking on the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness suggested Crystal Palace could be forced to “refresh their squad” next summer.
He told Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast: “I wouldn’t be shocked to see Gallagher return to Palace, where he was extremely popular. He had an excellent loan spell there. I know he really enjoyed that period.
“And I think Palace may need to refresh their squad as well if they end up losing a few players. I think he would suit Palace perfectly. So that’s where I feel he could end up.
“But I still believe it will be a summer move. I expect he’ll stay with Atletico until the end of the season and then assess his options. He’s got a huge season ahead of him in Spain, and they’re competing at the top, which makes it a difficult league to try and win.
“If they can push past Real Madrid and Barcelona, it’s not impossible, and I know he could establish himself as a real star. The supporters over there like him, but if he does come back, I’m tipping Palace.”

If Crystal Palace do make a move for Gallagher next summer, it could be linked to the possible exit of Adam Wharton.
Wharton has reportedly been valued at £100 million by Palace, with Manchester United showing significant interest in the 21-year-old midfielder.
The Red Devils are expected to be in the market for a new midfielder next summer, although they may also consider more affordable options.
