Captain Marc Guehi has informed Crystal Palace that he will not agree to a new contract and intends to depart next year, says manager Oliver Glasner.
Glasner explained that Palace want the 25-year-old England centre-back, whose current deal runs out at the end of the campaign, to remain at the club.
“They offered Marc a new contract, but he said, ‘No, I want to make something different’, and that’s normal,” Glasner said.
Palace could offload Guehi in the January transfer window or allow him to walk away for free next summer.
Glasner added: “It’s how we can deal with this situation. (What) is the best way to get this next step done? And that’s all about how we are talking together.”
Guehi, who has featured in 167 matches for Palace since joining from Chelsea in 2021, was close to sealing a move to Liverpool this summer.
He completed a medical and was poised to finalise a £35m switch, but Palace withdrew from the agreement on deadline day after their attempt to sign Brighton defender Igor Julio as a successor collapsed.
Guehi has played every one of Palace’s 12 fixtures in all competitions this term, contributing to their current position of sixth in the Premier League.
Reports indicate Palace are keen to cash in on him in January, and that Liverpool may face competition from Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
Guehi earned his 26th England cap in this month’s 3-0 friendly victory over Wales and said there was “definitely an opportunity” of making the squad for the 2026 World Cup even if he remains at Palace for the rest of the campaign.
Meanwhile, Jean-Philippe Mateta’s long-term situation at Crystal Palace also remains uncertain, with discussions over a fresh contract believed to have reached an impasse.
The French forward has developed into one of the standout strikers in the Premier League under the management of Oliver Glasner, whose own future is unresolved as his contract expires at the end of the season.
Both Mateta and Guehi are anticipated to feature when Palace face relegation-threatened Burnley in the league on Wednesday. Glasner’s men are currently ninth in the Premier League, while they also sit 18th in the Conference League standings.
