Veteran Spanish goalkeeper Vicente Guaita has mutually terminated his contract with Parma Calcio 1913, bringing an unexpectedly short chapter to a close after just two months at the Stadio Ennio Tardini.
Parma confirmed the departure in an official statement released on Friday, January 23, 2026. The 39-year-old shot-stopper joined the Serie A side as a free agent on November 22, 2025, stepping in to provide experienced cover following a serious injury to first-choice goalkeeper Zion Suzuki.
With no club ties at the time, Guaita signed a contract until the end of the 2025/26 season, offering Parma a reliable emergency option during a challenging period.
However, the move never fully materialized on the pitch. Despite his pedigree—having previously starred for Celta Vigo, Crystal Palace, and Getafe—Guaita found himself behind emerging 24-year-old Italian keeper Edoardo Corvi in the pecking order.
Corvi seized the No.1 jersey and impressed with three clean sheets in nine Serie A appearances, conceding just eight goals in that span. His solid performances effectively blocked Guaita’s path to regular first-team football.
Guaita’s only outing in Parma colours came in the Coppa Italia Round of 16, where he featured in a 2-1 defeat to Bologna. With limited opportunities and Corvi establishing himself as the preferred choice, both parties agreed that an early parting was the best solution for all involved.
In their farewell message, Parma expressed gratitude and wished Guaita “the best of luck for the continuation of his professional career.”
The mutual termination allows the experienced goalkeeper—known for his commanding presence, shot-stopping ability, and leadership—to seek a new challenge elsewhere, potentially in a league where he can secure more consistent minutes as he approaches the twilight of his career.
