Leicester have made an encouraging start to life back in the Championship, although they currently sit outside the automatic promotion spots. Marto Cifuentes’ men will be eager to finish within the top two, and to achieve that, they may look to reinforce the squad in January.
However, it won’t be easy to do so due to their PSR limitations. They did bring in significant funds from the departures of Mads Hermansen, Kasey McAteer, and James Justin, among others, but Leicester executives would welcome additional outgoings when the transfer window opens again, as it would aid the club’s financial position.
And one key player who could help Leicester ease this situation is Boubakary Soumare, who has recently dropped out of the starting eleven.

According to SportsBoom (via Foxes of Leicester), Leicester are anticipated to part ways with Soumare in January, as this would prevent them from losing him for nothing when his contract runs out at the end of the season.
A valuation of £10m has been placed on the Frenchman, which is said to have drawn attention from Monaco, Roma, and Sevilla – the latter having previously taken him on loan during the 2023-24 campaign.
Soumare has not started either of Leicester’s last two fixtures, suggesting he is no longer in Cifuentes’ plans moving forward. If that’s the case, it would be sensible to cash in as soon as possible, with any proceeds from his departure potentially being reinvested into the first-team squad.
It remains to be seen whether Soumare, who has been open to leaving for some time, departs in January, but if he stays, it looks almost certain he’ll move on next summer at the latest, as his prospects of earning a contract extension appear quite slim.
