Leicester City have a choice to make regarding the future of the centre-back at the King Power Stadium. His contract with LCFC runs until June 2027, meaning he still has another couple of years remaining.
Faes, 27, has been with the Foxes since arriving back in 2022. He has since made 131 appearances in all competitions, 12 of which have come this season, and he has scored six goals from defence.
In this latest update concerning his situation with the Championship side, LeicestershireLive claim he may draw interest from elsewhere this winter. He will be aiming to get into Belgium’s squad for the World Cup in USA, Canada and Mexico next summer.
Leicester City were demoted from the Premier League earlier this year. They finished in the bottom three along with Ipswich Town and Southampton.
The Foxes subsequently parted ways with Ruud van Nistelrooy in the summer. Marti Cifuentes was brought in as his replacement following his exit from fellow second tier side QPR in late May and it has since been a mixed start in terms of results for the Spaniard.
Leicester City brought in Faes just over three years ago now to bolster their defensive department. He gives LCFC more competition and depth at the back.
The Belgium international, who has 28 caps to his name, helped them gain promotion from the Football League in 2024 under former head coach Enzo Maresca. However, they managed only 12 months back in the top flight before dropping down again.
Faes came through the ranks at Anderlecht but never played for their first-team. Instead, he was loaned out to SC Heerenveen and Excelsior to gain some experience.
KV Oostende came calling on a permanent basis before he joined Stade de Reims in 2020. He then featured on 77 occasions during his spell in France and found the net on five occasions.
What now for Leicester City and Wout Faes?
Leicester City will be assessing what to do next with Faes. Selling him would free up space and funds in LCFC’s squad.
The Foxes won 2-1 away at Norwich City last time out before the international break. Bobby De Cordova-Reid and Jordan James got their goals against the Canaries at Carrow Road in what proved to be Liam Manning’s last match in charge of the East Anglian outfit.
Cifuentes’ men are back in action next weekend. They face a home clash against in-form Stoke City.
